For those interested.

There is a current rebate on this item, however REBATE is NOT valid on Walmart.com. It is valid in store at Walmart and requires a B&M cash register receipt.

Typically price is $5--7 more in store, if your local store will PM to the Walmart.com price, you can get the rebate. It isn't clear if getting a PM in store is a sure thing as haven't located a firm policy on their website. if there isn't one, it is up to store discretion. So YMMV of course. Be sure to read and understand the rebate specifics before you head to Walmart B&M so you know what purchases and documentation is required to submit for the rebate.

Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic looks like a solid midrange synthetic oil, with the deal landing especially well when Walmart matches the online price in store and the rebate goes through. The comments point to good value at $23.37 per 5 quart jug, and some even note the high mileage version and Ultra Platinum rebate options. The main catch is the rebate process, which has been inconsistent and sometimes requires a physical Walmart receipt or extra follow up. It is a practical pick if you can get the store price and handle the rebate paperwork.

Common Questions (5)

  • The rebate is tied to a physical Walmart store receipt, and Walmart.com receipts can be denied. A store receipt with the purchase date, store name, transaction number, and product details is the safest path; some claims were approved after in-store purchases, while Walmart.com submissions were rejected.

  • Yes, Walmart stores can price match the identical Walmart.com item, and several shoppers reported getting the in-store price matched to the online $23.37 price. The manager on duty has final say, so it can depend on the store.

  • No, the Platinum jug is not the same as Ultra Platinum, and the $30 rebate was described as applying to Ultra Platinum 5-qt bottles. Ultra Platinum was also reported as included in the rebate at about $30 for 10 quarts, while Platinum is the lower-tier product.

  • The rebate processor has denied claims when the Walmart cash-register receipt did not show the buyer's name. Some denials were later escalated and approved, but the receipt issue is a common reason given for rejection.

  • Pennzoil Platinum was described as a Group III+ synthetic, which is better than basic Group III oil but below Group IV. Kirkland oil was repeatedly mentioned as cheaper and fine for normal use, while Pennzoil Platinum was treated as the higher-quality option for shoppers willing to pay more.

It was this price in store when I saw it tonight. Ultra Platinum was $26 and change as well. I already put in for the rebate when it came out and already got my money as well. Only a couple weeks.

I use ultra 0W20 in my family's corolla x2 and a GX460. My wife's RX350 hybrid has the Platinum due to 0W16 for hybrids. I do 5000 mile changes with factory Toyota/lexus filters that also go on sale online direct from dealers for about $5.

I also suggest checking out the Project Farm oil test. Ultra platinum did very very well.

I'm tracking the RX with lab testing from my first change when it had the first 1k mile change by me. Interesting to see the metals in the oil from breaking in.

If I am reading this correctly. You can upgrade to the ultra platinum and get a 30 dollar rebate for two 5 qt bottles. Ultra platinum near me is 26 dollars per 5 qt bottle. So two ultra platinums should basically be 22 dollars after receiving rebate.

Check your local Walmart store to get the rebate. Should be the same price as online. I bought some last week in-store and it showed "rollback" to ~$23.

My rebate was declined. I called Pennzoil and they required Walmart to directly send the invoice. I didn't want to deal with this BS and returned the oil.

None of these are good quality oils. The European Specs ones are not included, and those are the only ones I would consider as "quality" oil. Ultra ones are also not included. This is cheap oil, probably the same quality as the Costco one. Works for most cars, but this is not high quality oil. I would just get the Costco one instead.
darn. Was hoping to use this for my bugatti.

Cheaper? of course it is, not the same level quality of this.
Either the standard are met and the oil is certified or it isn't. Anything else is marketing. Do you think Costco is manufacturing their own oil or do you think it's a private label from a major brand?

Even within full synthetic oils there are differences.

Meeting a standard is one thing, how much you exceed a standard is another.

I do recommend checking walmart.com before going to the b&m to buy for their stock status. My closest Walmart does not carry Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30 that I need.

A few years ago, I did not check online so I didn't know that they would not have it. Instead, I bought the non-High Mileage version. Took it home, submitted and received the rebate, and then returned the jugs. I then purchased the High Mileage version off Amazon. End result was basically the same, but I don't want to go through it again. Better to go to a Walmart that has it when convenient.

From this Walmart page [walmart.com]:

For items purchased in a Walmart U.S. store, we will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com. Restrictions apply [walmart.com].

The Walmart store manager on duty has the final decision on any price match.

So basically it's up to the store when all is said and done. that's the most contradictory price match policy I've ever read. LOL.
Update: Went to the B+M with the expectation of fighting to price match and it was the same price in store ($23.37)! Picked up 2 jugs and will hit that $30 virtual card!

That's great, for the life of me, I don't understand why they don't allow online purchases for the rebate from WMT but they do in store. Seems kind of absurd to force people to go to the B&M to buy it.
