ASUS RT-BE92U is a Wi Fi 7 tri band router that can be very fast and, after firmware updates, has become solid for some setups. Merlin support is a plus, and the 6 gigahertz band can help avoid 5 gigahertz DFS dropouts. The main caveat is stability, with reports of random reboots, crashes, and MLO problems unless features are toned down or 6 gigahertz power is adjusted. It feels like a capable but finicky router that rewards careful setup.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can be stable after firmware fixes and tuning, but there are also reports of random reboots, connection drops, and crashes even after updates or Merlin. One reported workaround is lowering 6GHz power from high to medium, which stopped daily reboots for that setup.

  • Only if you are willing to troubleshoot, because MLO is specifically called out as unreliable on this model. If you want a router that works without disabling features, the comments suggest looking elsewhere.

  • Yes, it supports Asus-Merlin firmware. Merlin is used by owners to stabilize the router and add extra features, though some features such as VPN Fusion/native NordVPN support may be missing in the latest Merlin builds.

  • Turning off MLO is reported to make the router usable for some setups, and several comments say MLO itself does not work reliably. That workaround can help, but it also means you may be disabling one of the main Wi‑Fi 7 features.

  • Yes. Firmware updates are repeatedly described as fixing the router's early stability problems, and updating immediately is treated as the first step after setup. That matters because the router has had issues with drops, reboots, and shaky behavior that improved after patching.

This had a ton of issues, but they have been fixed with firmware, so make sure you update that first thing. It has grown into a wonderful router.

BestBuy has the same price if you want to pick up locally. I was scanning through the reviews, a lot of 1 star regarding issues with stability. Wonder any users can give some inputs about this router, especially with Merlin.

I'm still using a T-Mobile Personal CellSpot which is almost 12 years old, but it's running great with wrt-Merlin.

Shaky issues complained about in Amazon reviews seem fixed with firmware updates, which should be mandatory immediately when you put in a new router in any case. Price history seems to be in a good spot and this model can use extra-featured third-party Asus-Merlin firmware.

Unfortunately the TMO router and it's Asus original equivalent have been out of Merlin updates for a long time now. Which means any security issues won't be fixed. I've been looking for something to replace those old routers with.

I replaced 2 of the TMO routers with 2 of these (purchased used from Amazon Warehouse). My 1st step was to install Merlin and use the mesh. No trouble since BF 2025.

Best Buy also offers an extra 15% off if you bring an old router in to recycle, so you can save even more if you have an old unused router sitting around somewhere.

I bought this router last fall and immediately put Merlin FW on it. It has been pretty solid and has a much more stable signal then my AX3000 or AC68U did before.

Asus makes great router, but with this price I would get a lastest GL.iNet GL-BE9300 (Flint 3) at even lower cost.

I'm having Flint 2 at a different place and satisfied with it.

Netgear is a great alternative with dd-wrt or Flint 2 or Flint 3

Holding out on Flint 4. Installed Fresh Tomato on Netgear r7000 to hold me over. Flint 2 is a great router also.

The specific issue I had was the 2.4GHZ would work for about 15-30 minutes than hang until a router reboot, only affected a few older devices, but one was the printer, so it was a pain rebooting it to print. But its been rock solid since they fixed it.

Snagged one used for $164. Best advice is to patch as soon as you get it and most issues go away. I will try this approach and hope I didn't buy a dud.

One of the Worst router I ever purchased to replace my old AC68A (x3). Always dropped connections every 10-15 mins. Tried Merlin, Factory reset and eventually I got RMA and Asus sent me different router instead. After that, I just went with unifi and couldn't be happier.
