The GPU on the Mac Mini M4 chip is 20-30% stronger than the now-aging 680m.
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/com..._pro_6850
The CPU on the Mac Mini M4 is 40% stronger in single core performance, and 10% stronger in multicore performance.
The Mac Mini has 16GB memory vs the 24GB memory here (all of it is soldered down on BOTH options).
Basically, unless you're looking to play Fortnite or Overwatch (which the PC will definitely do on low-medium settings), the value is all on that Mac Mini M4 at Microcenter, if you're getting it within $50 of this. I say catch 22, because while its stronger for gaming, your number of games is less.
The CPU being 40% stronger on single core means all emulation (from Switch downward) will be crushed under the foot of the Mac Mini M4.
Community Reviews
The Aoostar MACO is a compact Ryzen 7 PRO mini PC that stands out for HTPC use, light gaming, emulation, and home lab tinkering. It brings 24GB of soldered LPDDR5, a 1TB SSD, dual 2.5GbE, OCuLink, and empty M.2 slots, so storage and expansion are stronger than on many small desktops. External NVMe over USB or Thunderbolt can also work well, and Proxmox, Linux, Windows, and even a Windows 11 Pro VM have been run on it. The main tradeoffs are soldered RAM and the usual uncertainty around seller shipping and service. It fits best when expandability and flexibility matter more than future memory upgrades.
Tinkerers installing Linux or Windows on a compact x86 box, because it supports native OS installs and can run Proxmox, Linux distros, or Windows VMs.
Home-lab builders who want onboard M.2 storage and dual 2.5GbE, because the system supports expansion and runs Proxmox solidly for multiple services.
Living-room gamers who mainly play lighter titles or emulators, because the Radeon 680M handles HTPC use, light gaming, and emulation well.
People who want to boot games from external storage, because an external SSD can match the internal drive's read and write speed.
People who need guaranteed fast shipping and responsive order support, because orders can sit without updates and delivery estimates can remain unclear.
Gamers chasing the strongest frame rates in newer titles, because the Mac mini's GPU and CPU are faster and this system is only described as low-medium settings for Fortnite or Overwatch.
People who need future RAM upgrades, because the memory is soldered and cannot be expanded later.
Buyers who need a desktop replacement for heavy everyday work, because the Mac mini is described as the better general desktop replacement.
