That's a crazy good deal. GP Lama test couple other models from Thinkrider and they were pretty okay. Even if the power meter is not super accurate this is a price of old fluid trainers. Heck my old Elite rollers were just slightly cheaper than this.

Yes but right now fluid trainers are free or dirt cheap, and you can still get very useful power metrics out of them for training, even if they don't translate exactly.

I get your point, but with the smart trainers being so cheap, and ability to use ERG, zwift (and others), and not have to ruin your rear tire, it's a no brainer.

i have been waiting for a used kickr core. i dont' use zwift or anything, i just get on and do a 30 minute session in silence like a sociopath. this serves the same purpose, right?

I may be wrong, but you have to use at least some sort of software to interact with the trainer. There are whole bunch of them around, and a few that does not have the "riding" experience like Zwift does. I think Trainerroad is good, Garmin Connect and Wahoo app are free.

A lot of times when I do a Zwift workout, I just listen to music, or watch Netflix, with a small Zwift screen on the side.

ah, okay. so i can't just hop on and ride? I need to use an app or something to change gears and stuff? I'm trying to do what you're doing, if i can use my phone to see watt and stuff, great, but i usually just go by heart rate on my watch

You will be using the gears on your bike, but to control the resistance, you will need an app. Any modern phone or a tablet should be able to run most of those apps. In my case I have a desktop Windows box with a projector for more "immersive experience", but that's not a requirement.
