Also, I can confirm the rubber is quite easy to remove if you wanted to replace it with another material, it's held on with adhesive that would make it very easy to stick to/cut out a template. In my case (can't speak to these specifically as they've had too many models/variations to know for sure) all the adhesive was removed with the rubber pad.EDIT: Completely misunderstood, didn't realize you meant the coating on the whole mouse lol yeah that stuff gets ugly quick. There are replacement upper shells you can get on eBay for a little under $30 but I have no idea what the build quality is like.
