Great mouse, check out Solaar on Linux if you need to edit the bindings. Only note is that it has that soft rubber coating that some of their accessories unfortunately have.

These are great trackball mice and the battery life is very long with standard AA batteries. It's a lot quieter than the original non-S model which I use.

I bought this, but was disappointed that it didn't seem to pair with my other logitech devices. It came with a different dongle, do I need to go into some sort of pairing setting when adding?

What do you mean? This trackball pairs with Bluetooth by default, the USB dongle is their unified Logi dongle for people w/o Bluetooth. If you use the latter option, you can pair the device online through Logitech's website, or download their logi options software.

two ways around this: 1) rubbing alcohol to get rid of it or 2) rubber grip sticker covering entire mouse

I went with 2 until I get tired of the rubber grip and have a few hours to rubbing alcohol "clean" it........

+1 Solaar. Also, I can confirm the rubber is quite easy to remove if you wanted to replace it with another material, it's held on with adhesive that would make it very easy to stick to/cut out a template. In my case (can't speak to these specifically as they've had too many models/variations to know for sure) all the adhesive was removed with the rubber pad.

EDIT: Completely misunderstood, didn't realize you meant the coating on the whole mouse lol yeah that stuff gets ugly quick. There are replacement upper shells you can get on eBay for a little under $30 but I have no idea what the build quality is like.

These will have the newer Bolt dongles (that's what they mean by "encrypted dongle") which are not cross-compatible with Unifying devices that use 2.4ghz radios because Bolt uses Bluetooth BLE.

It was a huge mistake for them to do this imo, but it seems "huge mistakes" have been fundamentally incorporated into Logitech's business model for some time now.

I have a logitech dongle, that works with my wireless keyboard, mouse, and older trackball that broke. The new trackball doesn't work with the older logitech dongle, I plugged in the new dongle and it works with the trackball, but the other peripherals don't work with it. Maybe I need the software you suggested, I come to remember in the past though I would just get a logitech device and it would work out of the box.

Oh really? That sucks, now I'm debating if it's worth keeping, loved the unifying receiver.

probably came with the bolt dongle, doesn't work with the old unifying receiver.

YMMV with this but using this actually hurt my thumb. What is labeled as ergonomic may not be ergonomic for everyone. I find these worse than using a trackpad in terms of ergonomics.
