Worth evaluating if the Neo 2 is worth it for you. $100 more but apparently a huge step up compared to the original Neo.

The DJI Neo is a tiny controller free drone that works well for quick follow style videos and roof or property inspections. It is small enough to fit in a travel bag, can be flown without pairing to a phone, and has been used to check roof damage, raccoon entry points, and other hard to reach spots. Battery life is around 15 minutes, and propeller guards help after rough landings. The main caveats are limited satellite connectivity under porch roofs and concern that Amazon units may not include a warranty.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. It can be used to inspect roofs, raccoon damage, and other hard-to-reach areas, and it can capture video that helps with bids or evaluations. It is especially useful when you want to avoid climbing ladders or checking a roof by hand.

  • The controller-free Neo is small, travel-friendly, and can follow you for quick videos without pairing to a phone. Propeller guards help protect it after crashes, and the Fly More Combo is suggested as the better starter setup.

    Phi330frizbee

  • The Neo 2 is described as about $100 more and a huge step up from the original Neo. It is also reported as not released in the US, so US purchases may be gray market and not warrantied.

    FaithfulGorilla1131maxinux

  • Battery life is reported at around 15 minutes per charge. That is enough for short inspection flights or quick follow videos, but not for long sessions.

    frizbee

  • The Amazon purchase may not include a warranty. That matters if you want manufacturer coverage after purchase, especially compared with buying through a channel that clearly includes it.

Can I use this to check my roof? I am not a roofer. This will not be part of my business plan.
I'm too old to get up on a ladder (old enough to decide I don't want to) and check things out.

My neighbors had a local roofing company use a drone to inspect their roof for a bid. They showed my neighbor videos of the damage, that's such a great idea.

Agreed. It is a good idea. I did not think of it.
I had a roofer tell me I need everything new up there. I had another one tell me it all looks solid, no problems.

So, I'm thinking I should have a look for myself. I'm wondering if this drone will do what I need.

Not all drones are the same. Some roofers may use much better drones. Better sensors and zoom functions to get clarity on damage. I had roofer miss a crack in a dormer window using a (cheaper) drone.

I have the Neo and love it. It's small and fits at the top of my single bag travel. I don't need a controller (but I Have one) and it does a great job at following me for quick videos without pairing to my phone!

Any drone will. If you aren't going to check after every storm, I'd post in your neighborhood NextDoor, WhatsApp, or church group and ask if anyone will help you out.
