I had to look that up and glad I did. I was already hesitant to buy these, worried they'd be junk in 12 months. The reminder of the boots theory helped make the call. That said, what are the "good" chairs? Everything look like a clone of the same low cost design.

For comfort and being inexpensive usually the chairs with mesh are good. These gaming chairs can last but only if you're not above 200 lbs and you don't sweat very much. They aren't generally as comfortable as the mesh. If you want quality the price jumps a ton but Herman Miller is probably the most recommended.

To be fair I bought a chair at office max/depot on sale for 199 two years ago. I was on there the other day and it was 449. The chair gets used about an hour a day. The fake leather is starting to split at the headrest.

i call your boot theory and raise you a warranty. I have very seldom bought the same product twice because i get warranties, register my products and also choose items that have great warranty and customer service. just got a chair like this for free, as my mesh chair was under warranty.

How comfortable is this gaming chair and will the leather have a tendency to peel off due to wear and tear from use over time?

Tempting. I got a respawn gaming chair (that I'm surprised is a brand still going right now) that the leather is peeling and I kinda want a new one. But this looks like a downgrade.

That was my use case. Pre-teen boys gaming room. Good enough for them and they love it. When they get older/heavier and more responsible with things we can move on to something nicer.
