It's not too loud on the lower settings and I can't head it while it is running while upstairs. It is a huge improvement over my previous one as I don't smell food in the rest of my house when cooking anymore.

The only time the max setting would be used is when you fry. Which would be quick. Most of the time, i just use the low setting for steam/boil which isn't loud at all.
