Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 is being praised as a polished campaign shooter with active multiplayer and cross play lobbies, and the six dollar price is seen as unusually low for a game that rarely drops much below twenty. The biggest catch is the huge install, with comments putting it around 200 to 230 GB and noting that only selected DLC content needs to be enabled. There are also repeated reports of crashes, freezes, anti cheat or account lock issues, and a third party Activision account requirement. A strong nostalgia pick if the technical baggage does not matter.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. The install can be around 200-230 GB, and the game downloads the full package even if you only plan to play part of it. You can reduce what gets installed by choosing only the DLC/content you want before downloading.

    llong91ejaywillieNovatobardwso

  • The campaign is widely described as the main reason to buy it, and $5.99 is considered a strong price for that alone. The multiplayer is still active with cross-play lobbies, but the game also has reports of cheats and account-flagging issues.

    llong91noapathyOrangeKite2617Slayeroflight

  • Yes. Some display names can trigger a block that prevents playing, even single-player, and the token cannot be changed until the account is unlocked. The anti-cheat system can also block campaign access on some devices.

    LightningDemonAndroidBRnoapathy

  • It can. Reports mention mid-game crashes, full PC freezes, and in one case the system needed a battery reset before it would boot again.

    JFaydrsnowmondrsnowmon

  • Yes. The Steam version requires a third-party Activision account to play.

I have no issues. Seems to run fine for me so far. Multiplayer is NOT dead if you care about that and have plenty of cross play console players in lobbies. In my opinion it has lesser SLOP content and the best maps that feels like a war zone but large/small enough to be a decent arena. (I'm probably the minority that's tired of the predictable 3-lane formula.) If all you want is one of the best COD campaigns, 6 bucks is a steal for this one. Just make sure to go to your DLC setting before you download and install so you only download the content that you want to play and not the entire 200+ GB.
Crossplay sucks. It's just not fair for all parties. Console for aim assist. PC got the freedom of movement. COD BO4 last true COD.

200gb? damn, thanks for putting the word out
You end up downloading the whole game but it only unlocks th parts you purchase. In the days of limited ssd space it was also a way to keep the game front and center on the pc.

This is the cheapest price I've seen for a CoD game by a long shot.

Good thing I decided to look, I've already bought and played this game. It's in my Blizzard account. I hate that there is really no centralized way of seeing what games you own.

But I hate even more that they keep re-using the CoD and MW names.

THE best and most polished COD. They could re-release this every year and charge $60 and it'd still be leagues better than the annual slopware they release now.

The Call of Duty games have gone on sale at the same prices every time for nearly 10 years now.. they never go below $20. I'm surprised to see this sold for $6, seems really odd.
This game was okay, I liked 2 and 3 a lot better.
Also, this game came out in 2022, not 2023. It was released on Steam in 2023 when Activision decided to go back to releasing CoD games on Steam after doing it exclusively on Battle.net for several years.

They should have made a decent single player version, not worth online playing, look to Far Cry 5 as the best model to follow, it has the winning formula.

It's worth playing. This is the only good one they've released in the better part of 2 decades.

Name issue aside, how's the game? Is it fun? Is it worth it otherwise?
I bought this game yesterday, and it crashes mid-game. I have an X870E motherboard, a 9800X3D CPU, an RTX5080 GPU, 32GB of RAM, and the latest drivers. I have no problem running any games at ultra settings except this game. The worst part of that is when it crashes, it completely freezes my computer and disrupts all settings for my other Steam games.

Game crashed multiple times and one time couldn't boot my PC afterwards. I had to reset the battery. Beware..
I thought I was the only one having this issue. I immediately returned the game.

What the heck, for $6, why not? But man, it requires something like 230GB of drive space. I wasn't expecting that.
Nonetheless, thanks OP. Feels like I haven't played this game since the original way back in the day.

Is this one of those games that doesn't work on the Steam Deck because of anti-cheat stuff?

Is this worth buying for a solo player? How's the single player campaign?
Never enjoyed the multiplayer lobbies but I'm always on the lookout for a good solo campaign experience. Thanks in advance
