Ugh I won't get anything below 512gb and at current prices it's not much more to get m5. Also debating between this and 14in pro.

With the 15" M5 Air at $1199 with Apple "student" discount, you get much faster 512GB SSD, much faster AI compute, slightly faster CPU, slightly better WiFi/bluetooth. Not sure if it's worth an extra $250... Also worth noting you can price match at Best Buy and use their recent $5/$10 certificates.

Same here, 1350 for better screen, speakers, and possibly battery life of pro, or slightly larger macbook air, less weight, and fanless.

Community Reviews

This 15.3 inch MacBook Air stands out for its thin, fanless design and larger screen, making it appealing for everyday use and lighter travel. The M4 chip and 16GB of memory are seen as solid for general work, and the new version is only slightly above Apple refurb pricing. The main drawback is the 256GB SSD, which draws repeated criticism as too small for macOS, coding, or long term use. Several comparisons also point to better value in 512GB or Pro configurations at similar prices, so the storage limit is the key tradeoff.

  • Students who want a light, fanless laptop for everyday schoolwork, because the Air is praised for portability and quiet operation.

    BryanL2121AquaGalley8616

  • Buyers who need a larger screen for general use, because the 15-inch size made a noticeable difference compared with a 14-inch model.

    DealsAdd1ctBryanL2121

  • Shoppers who want a new MacBook instead of a refurb, because paying a small premium over Apple refurb was judged worthwhile.

    HappyDeer3232

  • Buyers who refuse to compromise on storage, because 256GB is likely to feel cramped and regretful.

    sr27iceage2007whatgooddeal

  • Developers who keep lots of tools installed, because 256GB storage can fill up quickly once coding utilities are added.

    soAsianEricJ19

  • Students who need a tablet-first school setup, because an iPad can handle more of the classroom workflow at that age.

There was a Costco instacart deal end of last year for $805. Who knows if we'll ever see that sort of deal again with current market.

I saw that, and thought about it for a moment. But I just couldn't get over the screen on the Air, so for me it's the Pro all the way. Costco had the M4 Pro on sale at $1349 on multiple occasions early last year in the store.

Last Dec there was 20% off Amazon Warehouse deal and a "Excellent Like New" one was about $750 + tax. I'd wait for something like that. Spring sale soon.

It's disappointing that MacBooks still give users only 256gb at entry level after 15 or so years, and the cost to go to 512 even is a big step up costing $100 or more
