This 15.3 inch MacBook Air stands out for its thin, fanless design and larger screen, making it appealing for everyday use and lighter travel. The M4 chip and 16GB of memory are seen as solid for general work, and the new version is only slightly above Apple refurb pricing. The main drawback is the 256GB SSD, which draws repeated criticism as too small for macOS, coding, or long term use. Several comparisons also point to better value in 512GB or Pro configurations at similar prices, so the storage limit is the key tradeoff.

Common Questions (5)

  • 256GB is likely to feel tight on a MacBook Air because the OS and apps quickly consume space, especially if you install developer tools, keep media, or want room for files. Several comments recommend avoiding the 256GB configuration and treating 512GB as the practical minimum.

  • It is only about $20 above Apple's $929 refurb price for the same class of machine, but several comments say the older M4 Air pricing does not stand out versus newer options. Alternatives mentioned include an M5 Air around $1,199 with student discount and a Costco M5 Pro 14 with 16GB/512GB at a similar price.

  • The 14-inch Pro is favored if you want a better screen, better speakers, more ports, and possibly longer battery life. The 15-inch Air is the lighter, fanless option, but some shoppers prefer the Pro enough to pay around $1,350 for it instead.

  • A better price may appear, but past deep discounts were rare: one Costco in-store M3 15-inch 16GB drop reached $799, and an Amazon Warehouse "Excellent Like New" unit was about $750 plus tax. Those deals are described as unusual, so this $949 price may be closer to current market norms.

  • For school use, the right device depends on the school ecosystem: Chromebook, Windows, or Apple. For a 5th grader, an iPad may be the better fit if the child does not already have one, since it can do many student tasks with a keyboard case and Pencil.

I just bought the NEO with ID for 599 dollars, ... I don't do any pro video or pro music stuff, just casual user (tv/movies/music/facetime/email/banking/surfing).
I do have mac mini m4 for home use, mostly I bought the NEO for casual use. The AIR 2025 version seems like a wonderful device, ... so good luck to you more pro users.

Stay away from 256gb. You are going to regret it.

I know it's a time machine deal. I bought two used like new( in fact they are new with stickers) late last year for same price but with better specs. 24gb ram and 512gb SSD and I love them.

Before that i tried 14 inch from Costco. Extra couple of inches and bigger SSD made alot of diffrence

Amazon also has it with 24GB & 500GB Storage for $1,299 or if you use student discount on apple site you can get m5 for $1,399. I ordered the apple version arrives next Friday since i upgraded RAM to 24GB

Ugh I won't get anything below 512gb and at current prices it's not much more to get m5. Also debating between this and 14in pro.
Same here…with all of the M4 Air models at their price points and comparing to the M5 Air (and base M5 MacBook Pro 16/512), none of the prices for the older models stand out in terms of being a really great deal as compared to the others' cost for what you get with any particular configuration.

Did you consider that Costco sells the M5 Pro 14 with 16/512 ram/storage for the same price? Better screen, ports….

But that's 8gb less ram and smaller screen.

How has been your experience with NEO? I am thinking to get it for my son in 5th grade.

Same here, 1350 for better screen, speakers, and possibly battery life of pro, or slightly larger macbook air, less weight, and fanless.

256GB for storage is trash. I have M1 mac mini with 256GB and all i do is coding and the storage quickly fill up if you add more developer tool.

so far my experience is very good. Just keep watching reviews online to see if it would be good for 5th grade. I guess check with the school he goes to, and ask what the teachers think about it. Is the school a chromebook based school, do other's bring windows or apple devices to school. Maybe other parents can chime in. I wish I had a father like you when I was in 5th grade, computers weren't even around when I was in 5th grade. Smilie

Depends on what you develop with. A lot of dev tool and languages are very bloat.
