Ugh I won't get anything below 512gb and at current prices it's not much more to get m5. Also debating between this and 14in pro.

With the 15" M5 Air at $1199 with Apple "student" discount, you get much faster 512GB SSD, much faster AI compute, slightly faster CPU, slightly better WiFi/bluetooth. Not sure if it's worth an extra $250... Also worth noting you can price match at Best Buy and use their recent $5/$10 certificates.

Same here, 1350 for better screen, speakers, and possibly battery life of pro, or slightly larger macbook air, less weight, and fanless.

Community Reviews

This 15.3 inch MacBook Air stands out for its thin, fanless design and larger screen, making it appealing for everyday use and lighter travel. The M4 chip and 16GB of memory are seen as solid for general work, and the new version is only slightly above Apple refurb pricing. The main drawback is the 256GB SSD, which draws repeated criticism as too small for macOS, coding, or long term use. Several comparisons also point to better value in 512GB or Pro configurations at similar prices, so the storage limit is the key tradeoff.

  • The deal can be worth considering when Apple refurb pricing is close to the new price.

    HappyDeer3232

  • The 15-inch Air configuration can stay fanless and lighter while still offering a larger display than a 14-inch model.

    BryanL2121

  • Price matching at Best Buy and using $5 or $10 certificates can reduce the effective cost.

    Rontron

  • Upgrading RAM and SSD beyond the base configuration can make the larger 15-inch Air feel like a noticeable improvement.

    DealsAdd1ct

  • The 256GB storage configuration can fill up quickly because the OS and developer tools consume space.

    EricJ19iceage2007soAsian

  • The 256GB option can lead to regret for buyers who need more room over time.

    sr27

  • The deal may feel like poor value because it prices near $1,000 while offering only 256GB storage.

    whatgooddeal

  • The Air screen can be a dealbreaker compared with the Pro display, pushing buyers toward the 14-inch Pro instead.

The m3 15" 16gb ram dropped to 799 eventually at my local costco, but that was rare and in store only.

How has been your experience with NEO? I am thinking to get it for my son in 5th grade.
If he doesn't have an iPad, an iPad will slay this for a student at his age. You can get an older 12.9" pad pro, pair it with a logitech combo touch (I got open box $70 on ebay) or zugu case and Apple Pencil w/paperlike atop a glass screen protector. It can do so much a laptop can't do for a student his age.
