Just know these are very OLD designs, and these are BRUSHED motors... not the new BRUSHLESS motors... So its only an "OK" deal, but these are very old models, just be warned about this. Notice the giant round humps on the backs with air vents. That means they are the garbage brushed motors...

Despite what the tool nerds say, this is a fantastic deal for anyone getting into DIY or a new homeowner.
hard agree.. i bought this exact set 10 years ago.. 3 apartments and 2 houses later, they've been a great value! Other than new batteries, they're still going strong.

No, no, they're not, because you can get better tools for around the same price or less. That's the exact opposite of a fantastic deal.
If you just absolutely had to buy something on Amazon today, the Metabo HPT kit is better batteries and better tools for all of $10 more: https://www.amazon.com/Metabo-HPT...B0BVPS2ZYN
And if you absolutely must have Team Yellow, the Dewalt brushless kits go on sale at this price or less all the time. (Really, drill/driver combos are a dime a dozen and you should be picking a battery platform on more esoteric needs.)
This isn't even a good price for -this- combo, which is routinely $99 around any major holiday.

Agreed. Although brushes are not difficult to change (youtube how to), Brushless is much smoother to work with, even around the house.
These being brushed motors is probably less than ideal if you're using this for hours each day at work, but for your average homeowner who is going to use it a couple times a month they will still last forever. If you really need brushless and Dewalt, the comparable set of tools on Amazon right now is $90 more expensive.

This was my point exactly. The tool nerds completely proved my statement correct, by pointing out the brushless vs. brushed difference and then punching down on those less well versed, but needing a capable set to get started.
i was actually looking at a 4v drill from harbor freight for $20 because i wont be using it much. just need to have a drill for occasional use.
maybe i should order this set and be done with it. i do want dewalt atomic brushless drill plus driver on sale.
last weekend home depot had a ryobi 3/8 brushed drill with battery on sale for $50. there was a demo model with screws and a 2 by 4. it was very easy to drive the screws in. it had plenty of power for my use around the house. i didnt buy because it was not brushless.
i am in a pickle.

Sorry, I have to agree with the "tool nerds" on this one.
This set exists solely to sucker in people looking for DeWalt yellow colors on Amazon. This design is OLD and WEAK. The batteries are low capacity and lack a "charge gauge". The charger is ancient and slow. But it's paid-for tooling that lets DeWalt print money.
Yes, it's "good enough for homeowners". But so is a Ryobi set at even less. Or the Craftsman equivalent, which is probably these exact guts in a different blow mold. Or honestly literally ANY drill/driver combo you could buy at the big box store today. If you just want "good enough for homeowners", why are you paying the DeWalt markup in the first place??? If you want "pro grade" DeWalt tools, why are you buying this set?
This set is an irrational purchase decision. I wouldn't get it. Either wait for the real DeWalt tools to go on sale at the same price point, or buy into a more affordable battery system that's better suited to modest needs.

That's kind of the point. This exact set was indeed on sale 10 years ago. There have been an ocean of improvements in battery powered tools since then.
This is a poor bargain, because you're overpaying for what you get.
Yes it will work. So will a myriad of less expensive options, if that's your criteria.
