I also really like Corelle. They do shatter if they break, but they don't break easily. I have 4 kids and while I have had a few pieces break over the years most of them have held up for going on 20 years now. I really like that they don't take up much space in the cabinet. Some of the patterns can get discontinued, so I liked sticking with the plain white as it's cheaper and you can buy single pieces if you need to replace something or to expand your collection. Plus they sell sets of just plates or bowls. The 28oz bowls are awesome and stack well with the 18oz bowls often sold in the sets. My kids like to use the meal bowls, but I do get annoyed by how much space they take up in the dishwasher. I like that they have mugless sets, but they replaced the salad plates with much smaller appetizer plates in a lot of them. But you can buy salad plates separately and I do use the appetizer plates a lot more often than I thought I would. They also fit on the top rack in my dishwasher along with all of the bowls. I like that there are so many options for different shapes and sizes. I have found some good deals on Amazon especially by buying from the warehouse (usually returns or damaged packaging). Corelle can have some really good sales although the order minimum is high for free shipping $99. It looks like they don't combine orders with Pyrex anymore, but they still do with Corningware and Chicago Cutlery.

Prior to 1995 Corelle with patterns used lead and other heavy metals in the colored decorations. Find out more at Tamar Rubin's website aka Lead Safe Mama. There is no safe amount of lead especially for children. They can safely use your undecorated plain white vintage Corelle however.

I like the Corelle too. The big bowls are especially good for soup. It's light, hard to break, easy to clean. We always get the plain white, and we don't use a dishwasher, we hand wash - have found it just as easy, and quicker (also more thorough). I was buying around 3.50-4 several years ago per bowl or plate when it was on sale.

I looked this up. Corelle used to have a lifetime warranty, but now has a 3 year warranty. They got bought out by another company. They still honor warranty's made under the lifetime warranty though.
