Crazy how $150 more than a Neo can get you this much more laptop -- the 120Hz Pantone OLED, 3x RAM, I/O, and Ryzen CPU especially stand out. Do a clean install of Windows 11 by downloading the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website and you should have a very capable PC for years.

The current Windows 11 experience also doesn't sound very appealing.

If you have a Staples in your area, you can find some amazing clearance deals there if you're lucky. The employees tend to leave tags on the shelf even after they've sold out of the item, though. Happened to me last week with an 8tb Seagate external HDD for $124. They had sold their last one days earlier.

anyone know if there has been a better deal than this all year for a new/premium laptop? I noticed there is a limit 2 for this one.

Can anyone enlighten me on how good is this CPU? Also, does the screen pose any problems reading text? I remember seeing text on 27" QHD OLED monitors, and did not like them. This laptop has a much higher density, so it might be better. TIA

Tbf this is pretty ymmv, and it's still 50% more than a neo from the edu store in the US. As someone with a Samsung book with OLED (which is a nicer build than this Vivobook) and a Neo, id take the Neo over this.

Noone likes rising tech prices, this is a solid machine and can last many many years. I bought the refurb from eBay back in November for $695 with the Intel Ultra 7 258V and 32GB of RAM with 1TB and it exceeds my needs and is a solid machine (waiting for 4TB to get below $300 so I can expand)- now that is $820 - this a great deal for an excellent screen and processor and by the time you need more than 512GB prices will probably drop: https://www.ebay.com/itm/16779781...26.m162918

Good to hear from someone who has a foot in each camp. I've got an M2 Air, and some older laptops running Windows and Linux and a slew of servers. Every once in a while I think I want to buy something like this Vivobook to run Linux or for travel, but then I have to ask myself why? There are other ways to satisfy my Linux interest, and other ways to run Window on those rare occasions I need to. Still, it's tempting...

Yeah, a modern computer can last you a decade if you treat it right. I still have a 2014 MacBook Pro that works fine other than the trackpad (known hardware defect) and its specs are pretty awful compared to laptops today.

wonky ram size.. should be either 32gb or 64gb.. or 16.. non matching memory chip sizes means it won't have dual channel turned on.. looks nice otherwise
Could be three 8gb chips or two 12gb sticks. 12gb sticks became a thing with ddr5.

The Vivibook S line, unlike the non-S Vivobooks, do have metal (aluminium) bodies. I have an Ultra 5 Series 2 (Lunar Lake) version of the Vivobook S14 with 16GB ram I picked up for $350 on sale, and it is incredibly solid. Build quality is excellent.

The Vivobook S series is my favorite ASUS line for thin and lights, actually - it combines metal bodies (like the Zenbooks) with MicroSD readers (like regular Vivobooks and unlike the Zenbooks). Best of both worlds.
