Community Reviews
GEARWRENCH's pass through ratchet and socket set is a specialized low profile kit that shines in tight spots, long bolts, and other awkward jobs where a standard ratchet and socket setup is too bulky. The shallow design gives more contact area than a ratcheting wrench, and the sockets lock in firmly with a circular retention ring spring. The main drawback is convenience, since storage case support and replacement pieces are limited, and the set needs a pass through extension for full use. A compact, niche tool for jobs where clearance matters.
Mechanics working on long bolts or all-thread in cramped spaces, because the pass-through setup is shallower than conventional ratchet-and-socket combinations.
Technicians tightening strut nuts while holding the center stud, because the pass-through design can make that job possible without a short extension.
DIYers who want a low-profile ratchet for awkward angles, because it is easier to spin around and wobbles less than a regular ratchet.
Toolkits needing a compact deep-socket alternative, because the pass-through design combines deep reach with a lower profile than a standard socket set.
Users who want a set they can easily expand or repair later, because replacement bare sockets are hard to source and missing pieces may be difficult to replace.
Shoppers who want a complete kit with storage included, because the set may arrive without a case and storage can become an issue.
Mechanics who need a standard ratchet-and-socket kit, because this is a specialized pass-through setup rather than a direct replacement.
People who prefer a more mainstream wrench system, because this style is still niche enough that some would rather stick with regular ratcheting wrenches.

Both Gearwrench and Crescent x6 (which is indeed the same spline drive) do list these pass-through's as a current product on their web sites HOWEVER even gearwrench who appears to be the "lead" producer doesn't sell any individual sockets.
otherwise, a good quality set for a basic tool kit.
it's worth noting that the HF (pittsburgh) set uses hex-drive, and is cheaper than this with lifetime warranty. I don't know how HF handles warranty exchange for pittsburgh branded stuff, but they are (I hear) great for icon and doyle)

There still are even some individual sockets of common sizes on Sears.com for the Craftsman:

And hundreds of carded individual sizes on ebay.
So personally I'm not too worried that I can get a replacement socket for any brand, but you can always mix and match if you are not too anal about your set matching...
