Many mention Best Buy matching other Microcenter deals (even if there is not a Microcenter nearby) but YMMV.

I've had success using BestBuy's online chat to request a price match and just provided a MicroCenter zip code that had stock of the item.

Wow I'm shocked. This feels very unusual for an Apple new release

I price matched to Best Buy to get better cash back--but I live near a Microcenter and they had it in stock at the time.

Online chat hooked me up with the price match and then, since BB closed my CC years ago, I had to get a new card which hooked me up with a 10% rewards. I'm a happy guy Smilie

If you do the 10%, it would not let you do the 0% interest correct?

Are some of these microcenter options ranging from $2300 to $3900 (M5 Pro/24GB to M5 Max 48GB) better than Apple Edu M5 Pro 64GB for ~$3100?
For my current use case (Mobile & web app development) my M1 Pro 32GB is fine - but the whole intent behind this purchase is to get long term support for xCode AND future AI workloads - in one purchase.

That is correct, and at 30% interest rate, you can bet I'm paying that off tomorrow LOL! F**kin joke of a rate.

If your current laptop is fine, then don't get this. The refresh next year is going to have significantly better displays and a full redesign, and will have another performance bump with an M6. I'm guessing it will also be noticeably slimmer and lighter. I was really surprised how much heavier my M3 Max MBP was compared to my old 2012 retina MBP. The M5 is great if you need it, but if you are thinking long term and are fine for now, its best to wait.
The one thing id caution on in waiting is that with the AI companies buying up all the RAM in the world, prices might actually creep up in the future.
Another thing to consider is that Apple is now allowing you to combine two systems over Thunderbolt 5 to increase the available ram. You might be better off for example getting two Mac Studios instead of a new laptop if you just need it to run AI workloads.

No, we do need another one now (for wife). But questions which one. We bought the apple edu one but hated paying 3100$ AND thought of not having additional costco or Allstate warranties.
