Keep the seal sealed, keep the door closed. Keep on eating Ragu and Prego and Store brands.
I swear. Once you and your family eat this once, there's no going back.
My kids are now spoiled. They actually ask "is this raos?" If they see red sauce for dinner. They refuse to eat anything else. Spoiled turds.
It IS expensive, but honestly, it's a great product. Even with the ownership change to Campbell's last year or so, it's still the best common sauce around.
Community Reviews
Rao's marinara is praised as a standout jarred sauce, with a rich, familiar flavor that beats Ragu, Prego, and most store brands, and it has even been called the best all around marinara. The 24 ounce jar at $5.30 with Subscribe and Save is viewed as a decent price, though the 32 ounce size and Costco pricing look better per ounce. The main caution is shipping, since broken seals, leaking jars, and messy deliveries keep showing up. A dependable pantry pick if it arrives intact.
Common Questions (5)
Amazon shipping can be rough: jars have arrived with broken vacuum seals, leaking lids, broken glass, and sauce spilled in the box. Checking the lids on arrival is important, and damaged orders have been credited back.
It is widely treated as a premium jarred sauce and has even been named the best all-around marinara by Wirecutter. The main tradeoff is price, since cheaper alternatives like Aldi Specially Selected or Trader Joe's sauces are also cited as strong options.
The 32 oz size appears to be the better value, and a Costco comparison puts 64 oz at about $0.203/oz versus $0.223/oz here. If you can use the larger jar, it may lower the per-ounce cost.
The lower $4.74 price may require more Subscribe & Save subscriptions to unlock the maximum discount. If your listing shows $5.30, adding eligible S&S items can sometimes bring it down.
Rao's marinara is described as noticeably better than Ragu, Prego, and generic store brands, with some families preferring it after trying it. It is also still regarded as the best common jarred sauce even after Campbell's ownership change.

The mushroom and sausage sauce is solid. I'll put that + cooked extra Italian sausage + canned baby portabello mushrooms as a layer over some cooked pasta and then top it with sliced fresh mozarella. And then bake it in the oven for a bit to get the cheese to melt.
.203 per oz vs .223 so pretty close if you don't have costco mbrshp.

But if I find myself in Aldi or Trader Joe's I'll grab a Jar of Specially Select Marinara or TJ's Caro Sugo Basil pasta sauce. Equally as good and you will keep $2 or more in your pocket vs the grocery store price of Rao's
