This refurbished Acer Predator Helios Neo AI 16S is a thin gaming laptop that stands out for strong CPU and GPU performance, a 240Hz OLED screen, and 12GB of VRAM that helps with heavier games and some AI or CAD work. Real-world reports include good thermals with a cooling pad, quiet enough fans, and solid results when plugged in. The main concerns are battery life around 3 to 5 hours, a locked 240Hz panel, possible USB and graphics issues, and some units needing fixes or BIOS tweaks. A capable performance-first pick if portability and battery life are not the priority.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. The 16S chassis is described as the thinner, lighter model with a power-limited GPU, and the RTX 5070 Ti is capped around 115W. Even so, it is still reported to outperform a full-power RTX 5070M and benefits from 12GB of VRAM.
It is reported as having a 2-year Allstate warranty, but the Acer warranty date may need correction because it can be shown as ending a month early. Submitting the receipt online is said to fix the date.
Yes. The display is locked at 240Hz, and light-use battery life is reported around 3-5 hours depending on workload. Lowering refresh rate to 60Hz may help in theory, but the battery drain can still remain noticeable because the Intel Ultra platform is also described as power-hungry.
Yes, USB port issues have been reported during gaming, apparently tied to Optimus, and a BIOS update may eventually fix it. At least one unit has had no USB-C problems, so the issue does not appear universal.
The CPU can reportedly be tuned, but not fully undervolted by default. One workaround is to unlock the CPU voltage option in BIOS and use ThrottleStop; another comment says wattage can be adjusted through TPL values even if voltage itself is not changed.

If reliability was better, it's very nice.. but I really will probably end up with a strix.

Most of the issues are addressable - including installing Linux.
The intel Ultra on this and every other brand that uses the same CPU that I have explored have the battery and heating issue. I'm able to get my temps lower as stated in my comment link below with battery life between 3-4 hrs on light usage which in today's world is debatable with laptops lasting 10-12 hrs on light usage. On the other hand this laptop CPU is a beast and crunches any task thrown at it.
If you can keep the CPU temps below 95 while extensive then it should be be fine.
In theory screen reducing refresh rate to 60hz should extend battery life significantly, but that does not seem to be the case from what I have noticed when my buddies tried various options available.
There is big thread on optimizations for this laptop version on rediff.
For the price and config the price of this laptop with 2 yr warranty is a bargain.

Update:-
The CPU is not locked, I use throttlestop to undervolt CPU voltage, you have to unlock this option in the bios.
