Also they allow you to split payments betwwen 2 cards if thats takes away some of the hit.

A corporation's primary legal and ethical duty is to maximize profits for the shareholders who own it. If they didn't, people would not invest in the company, and R&D would suck.
Valve had the right idea with the Steam Machine, they really did - but they completely and utterly screwed the pooch with those specs. It maybe would have been "ok" 5 years ago for $500. In 2026 and beyond? Lol.
PS6 and especially Xbox Helix are gonna make the Steam Machine irrelevant (well...even more irrelevant) once they launch next holiday.
