Synology still does sync over internet to another synology, right?
My main usage will be photos and videos, for Plex it will not require transcoding, since most of my files are really old mp4 rips of my DVDs, and I got 2.5gbps internet, so it's another thing to consider if anyone is looking to access over internet.
Given this use case, is the DS425+ good enough? It would be great to save the extra $100 for disks if the performance difference isn't worth it for my situation.
Just remember, if you are going to need additional ram, and why pay almost same for 425+ and Ram because advanced functionality of the synology photos will require 4GB ram, and 425+ comes with 2GB ram. If you need to get object detection, it requires 4GB ram.

You can read above, 925+ also seems to have faster read/write speeds, USB-C port, and it looks like it has kensington port if you plan to secure this, though I don't know if you can lock the drives? For $100, 925+ seems like a good way to go.
Now, drives.. ugh those prices!

925+ has 4GB of ECC memory upgradeable to 32GB.
425+ has 2GB of non-ECC soldered on with a free slot to add another 4GB for a max of 6GB.
If it doesn't have ECC memory it's a nonstarter for a lot of people.
925+ has two 2.5GbE ports for a max throughput of 5GbE smb3 multi channel.
425+ has one 2.5GbE and one 1GbE port for a max throughput of 3.5GbE smb3 multi channel.
This is not that big a deal in my opinion depending on your network and what media you are putting inside this.
One last difference of note is the 925+ supports the DX525 expansion unit if you ever wanted to add 5 more drives in the future. That box does cost an extra $500 but it was on sale for $437 for Black Friday last year.
If you are using this as a local backup to your primary NAS as part of a 321 backup solution I would say the occasional pieces of lost/corrupt data due to non-ECC memory isn't as big of a deal.

Ugreen hardware is great, no issues at all and I installed an extra 8GB RAM and an SSD (OS/cache) and disabled the built in SSD in case I ever want to revert back to default OS setup.
Hard drive prices are absolutely insane though, I paid $300/drive for 26TB drives a year ago and the exact same drives were $555 each a few weeks ago. Checking now they are "only" $520 on serverpartdeals, not even new refurb'd NAS drives! Can't wait for the AI bubble to burst and prices to go back to normal, if they ever do.
