KitchenAid's semi automatic espresso machine stands out as a budget friendly starter setup with adjustable water temperature, auto shutoff, and a tall portafilter stand that works well for Americanos. The 58 millimeter portafilter and pressurized option can produce results close to a Bambino for similar workflow, while the steam wand handles milk better than the included frother attachment. The main cautions are that espresso quality depends on a good grinder and pre ground coffee can struggle, and there are reports of leaks and messy water buildup over time. At $129.99, it is a solid value if the machine fits your workflow.

  • The machine can be set to adjust water temperature for different roasts and preferences.

  • The portafilter stand is tall enough to support Americano workflow without extra cup pouring steps.

  • The espresso extraction can reportedly hit around 200°F, which falls within the commonly cited 195-205°F target range.

  • The auto shut off and pre-measured cup volume features can simplify day-to-day espresso making.

  • Pre-ground coffee can perform poorly because it may be too coarse for espresso unless it is custom ground for espresso.

  • The steam wand release button can start leaking after roughly six months even with maintenance.

  • The automatic milk frother attachment can be unreliable or considered junk, even when the steam wand works fine.

  • Shipping and order tracking can fail, including orders stuck in handling status and a non-working tracker.

Pre-ground coffee is never going to make anything resembling a passable espresso. If it's pre-ground at the distributor it's going to be far too coarse and meant for drip coffee. If you get it custom pre-ground as espresso by a local roaster then it's going to be usable right when you get it home and that's it.
Agreed - especially if you put pre-ground coffee in a non-pressurized portafilter.

Mine is supposed to be delivered tomorrow by their estimates, but wasn't even shipped and is still as "handling order". Their order tracker tool also doesn't work.
Apparently Kitchenaid has a long history of delayed orders, so let's see.
