This restored Midea Duo portable air conditioner is praised for strong cooling, quiet operation, and better efficiency than single hose portables thanks to its inverter, dual hose in one hose design. It has kept bedrooms and garages comfortable in hot weather, and the app, remote support, and window kit make setup flexible. Several units arrived like new with all parts, though some boxes were damaged or opened and a few were missing accessories. The main caution is reliability and warranty risk, since dead on arrival units, error codes, and heavy return hassles have all been reported, making careful inspection important.

Common Questions (5)

  • Many units arrive looking brand new and cooling normally, but some arrive with damaged boxes, broken seals, or missing accessories such as the vertical hose adapter or sliding window parts. It is worth opening and testing it immediately so any defect or missing part can be handled within the short warranty window.

  • Reliability is a real concern: some units arrive dead on arrival, throw error codes, or develop pump or noise issues, and the return process is difficult because the unit is heavy. The warranty is short at 90 days on this deal, and replacement or protection-plan coverage can be hard to get, so immediate testing matters.

  • Yes. The inverter design is reported to be more efficient than single-hose portables, and the unit is described as much quieter than comparable portable ACs, with noise low enough for work calls. The tradeoff is that it is still a heavy portable and some users find the cooling output only average for its size.

  • It can cool bedrooms, garages, and even an entire main living area well enough to hold temperatures in the mid-70s during hot weather, with some users reporting 66-68°F bedrooms at 95°F+ outside. It is especially useful as a backup when central AC fails, though performance depends on the space and setup.

  • Yes. It supports app control for scheduling and remote start, and it can also integrate with Home Assistant through a custom integration. That makes it easy to pre-cool a room before you get home or automate nighttime operation.

I bought this last summer on a refurb deal and it worked amazingly for all of 3 minutes before it started throwing error codes. Keep in mind this thing is very heavy and returning it to the store is quite a pain.

I had a Danby that lasted probably 10yrs with occasional usage and loaned to friends and neighbors. Sold it one summer for $160 because of storage issues and we moves to a house with 2 hvac so worst case we can stay in one part of house if one goes out until fixed. It only cooled down a room for sleep at night, about 12x12 depending on BTU (8000)

Is this better than the Costco Hisense portable AC that's going on sale the next monthly cycle?

Single large hose. Unique hose within a hose according to description. Aka dual hose in one large hose.
I've got hose - I've got hose - in different area hose, area hose

Ordered one last year, DOA, was a pain returning it, due to its weight
The reviews and headaches of trying to claim the one-year warranty make this definitely not worth it, especially given all the DOA complaints and problematic issues found with these units. I was about to pull the trigger but decided to investigate first, and I'm glad I did. Furthermore, you cannot add the Allstate protection plan. This normally works for refurbished items, so something is off since it isn't an option here. If I could pay a few extra bucks for a few years of warranty, I would, but no dice. It seems Allstate maybe feels this unit is not worthy of protecting, which signals a high failure rate in my mind.

Picked this deal up last year. Mine unit was working just fine out of the box, box was a bit smashed. A couple things I noticed, this unit is much quieter than my Hisense. The hose doesn't get as hot as a single hose design. Buying a replacement hose for this unit is pretty expensive compared to a single hose design on my Hisense I paid about $25 bucks, this Midea Duo replacement hose is about $100. A major benefit to buying Midea is you can get spare remote controls for pretty cheap. It's been a year and this unit is still going strong.

Got this same deal last summer - arrived like new. Worked excellent! Came with all window installation accessories, and funnily enough - two brand new remotes. One of the main reasons I got this unit was because the installation system supports really big, horizontal (casement) style windows. Had it installed in 15 minutes easy peazy. Thumbs up!

I bought one from Walmart as a refurb a year ago for about this price. It was a godsend when the AC stopped working and it was going to take a few days for the HVAC repairman to reach us. Ended up hanging some shower curtains from a cheap curtain rod in the hallway to keep cool air in one area to keep some bedrooms cool since it was the hottest days of the year. Worked really well. Was able to make a huge difference, even if we were pushing the limits of the thing.

Mine arrived with a busted open box and the remote control fell out. I never did receive the remote Midea promised to send me, so that's lame. But, it works just fine without any remote so we kept it.
