Apple AirPods Max USB C is being treated as a first generation clearance deal, with the newer model already announced but not due until late April. The appeal is the familiar AirPods Max sound and build at a lower price, while the new features on the next version are described as too small to justify waiting or paying more. The main drawback is the lack of a year Apple warranty. Price matching at Best Buy has also worked by using Costco links and a zip code with local warehouse availability, which can bring the cost down further.
people who want to buy the USB‑C AirPods Max but are okay with getting the gen‑1 model because it's being positioned as a stock‑clearing sale after the 2nd gen was released/announced.
buyers who are actively trying to lower the price via store price matching because commenters said they were able to price match at Best Buy by referencing the Costco USB‑C AirPods Max deal (and even got it down to $250 after rewards).
shoppers who can work around local inventory quirks because commenters reported that providing a zip code with warehouse availability (and trying other zip codes if it shows out of stock) helped the price-match go through.
people who were waiting for the newest AirPods Max features because commenters said the new model's features felt weak and not worth waiting for the price difference.
buyers who specifically want Apple's standard warranty coverage because one commenter noted it doesn't come with a year Apple warranty.
people who need the latest model immediately because the new model was described as only announced and releasing in late April (about a month away).
