I bought this one two years ago along with a number of heavy chain types for our families scooters and bikes. This one compacts and carries the easiest if mounted with zip ties to a frame but opening it and trying to wind it through wheels/frames does take a bit more work than with chains. Much lighter than the heavy kryptonite chains for sure.
Btw, this one will open and fit more options than a standard u lock.

Personally I'll never understand the obsession to rate locks by LPL standards*. He is covertly picking the locks, anyone IRL who wants to steal a bike is going to be using brute force methods to take the item as fast as humanly possible. The locking mechanism matters nothing to that individual.

*Don't get me wrong, his videos and skills are legit, but your average thief isn't carrying around a pick set, is not concerned with unobtrusive opening methods, and certainly does not practice picking a lock a dozen times (off camera) before that 60 second video on YT. They are unlocking windows with rocks, opening doors by kicking them in, and cutting off chains with bolt cutters.

It actually took LockPickingLawyer more than a minute to get this one open, so it must be a decent lock. The lock in the video has a different key, so it might not be the exact same lock.

anyone have one like this that can chime in on whether this has any advantage over a standard u shape lock?

Valid point. These new cordless powertools are way quicker than attempting to pick.

Just portability. 3mm is pretty thin. Easily cut through with a saw. A middle of the road U-lock should have at least a 12mm shackle but they're pretty cumbersome. I strapped my u-lock to my bike so it wasn't too bad but was still kind of annoying. I lived in a city though so it was worth the piece of mind. If I lived somewhere with less crime and wanted something more portable I would probably consider something like this. Even though it's thin it's still better than any 'braided' lock. Those can be cut with a pair of wire cutters.

I love this lock - yes it's really thin and probably easy to cut but most bike locks are anyway. Super easy to lock up your bike for quick trips...

I've had this lock for 2-3 years, mostly use it for my e scooter. It's easy to carry (mount on the scooter), and it has a larger locking area than a U lock, but these advantages come at the cost of being easier to defeat than a U lock

This is such a tidy package to carry. I like it for locking ladders down to my rack when I move them.

I have this since Sept 2021 and it's still my go-to lock for my commuter bike. Much easier to carry than a standard U lock. And to be honest metal thickness means very little, as most locks are no match to angle grinders anyway. There are angle grinder resistant bike locks, but they are $$$. So it all comes down to the value of the bike, and how rampant bike theft is in your area.

If I were a commuter who stored my bike in a secured/monitored area while working, I'd be all over this. At that point, you're just looking to deter someone from grabbing and dashing, and this can easily be carried in a cross-body or even pocket.

When I need to secure my bikes away from home, they're always in public/high-traffic areas and for a couple hours at the most, but I just can't bring myself to use anything less than a 14mm U-lock (I also have a manganese chain). As noted by others, it's way less about the lock mechanism and way more about how resistant the whole thing is to large bolt cutters and angle grinders. I also have a back rack bag, so the weight of a U-lock or chain isn't a big deal.
