Is this the one that has a built in mini disc player for Europe that is covered by the front plastic so they don't have to pay royalties?

This sounds really fascinating but I cannot find any talk of this on the Internet (yes, the whole thing!), do you have any links to any forums or anywhere else this is discussed?

Philips exited consumer electronics business years ago. I don't know the exact year they let other companies use their name. The old Philips audio were superb quality. This has nothing to do with Philips you knew.

There's no sub. The same product page has a 60W version for $200 that (according to a web search) has 20mm tweeters and 4" woofers.

30 years go those systems were so cool... today I think speakers from a consignment store + wiim pro is a better way to go - likely will sound better.

I bought this system used from FB Marketplace for $20. Love the size and don't expect big bass from those little drivers speakers. It's perfect for its intended function, which is a dorm room stereo that's small with lots of features. I stream my iphone to it. I have been looking another one for $20 Smilie
