I'm hesitant to put another app from a random company on phone that needs permissions.

Although your point is valid, I wouldn't worry too much if the app is on an iPhone or a newish Android. The greater problem is this:
These products work by selling label printers and supplies extremely cheaply to saturate the market and eliminate competition. Once companies like Brother, Dymo, and Epson exit the small label printer segment, prices for both printers and labels start to rise.

This CAN require picture permissions if you want to use pictures (historically these allow such things) you will have to provide permission to access, however I do have a separate folder set up only for my label makers... I control what pictures are accessed that way.

Thermal labels aren't heat resistant or durable compared to thermal transfer

Yaaaas. The countless Chinese firms making cheap products are really all just working together to drive the big guys out of the market. Soon staples will only carry NADAIIN products and they'll cost way more than Dymo costs now. 🙄
