It's excellent for heat shrink and removing adhesive (80% of my use cases)

Don't expect it to strip paint or any heavy duty stuff

One of the more disappointing DeWalt tools, but if you have some patience it will get the job done.

That's what I've heard too, after reading a LOT of reviews.

A heat gun is the one thing you should buy corded, as a LOT of energy is required to put out such energy.

This is one dewalt tool I will skip (and I'm addicted to buying sale priced dewalt rpoducts)

I'm not sure why this doesn't have temperature adjustment.

I have this and can confirm it's outstanding on heat shrink. I've also used it for plastic tubing and heating more delicate things that you don't want a blow torch on. Has two settings, high and low. I almost never use the low setting. High setting gets hot and the metal shroud on the front does glow red. Great in a pinch but doesn't replace plug in heat guns. Sounds like a blow dryer. Eats through batteries quickly. Have a couple 5Ah or larger on hand for this.

I bought this a year ago (paid like 50 buck tool only) and sent it back becuase it was very disappointing. Not good for much more than shrink tubing. At $100 hard pass.

Couldn't agree more. I do HVAC and this tool is beyond useless. It suck a 4 ah battery down quickly and I'd rather run a 100' cord then ever use this thing again. Home use it might be better, but if it is I've not found a use for it.

I bought this back in September. It has very little airflow and takes forever to heat up. I'd tried it on a few things and was very disappointed. Since I was beyond the return period, I contacted Dewalt support and they replaced it, but the replacement is no better.

To quantify things, I did a simple test (6 AH battery) where I handheld 18 gauge solder (about 1mm) and timed how long until it melted through and fell off. My corded heatgun did that in 10 seconds, this tool took 2 minutes.

Very disappointed in this tool.

I don't use mine. It takes a minute to heat up each time. which is just a bunch of wasted energy killing the battery. A much cheaper plug-in one heats up faster and there's no time(battery) limit. I'm keeping it around in case I find a specific need, but it wasn't nearly as useful as I had hoped, like my Ryobi cordless glue gun.

I completely agree. Low output, low fan speed, and drains batteries quickly. Even 9ah flexvolt batteries can have terrible run times on high.

Dremel VersaTip butane mini torch is profoundly better for shrink tubing. It has a catalytic heater that blocks the open flame.

I use this thing all the time on 3D prints to clear out any fine spiderwebs left over but yeah, doesn't seem great for anything that needs a lot of heat

I've had this tool for several years and have used it for heat shrink, getting decals off surfaces, and low voltage solder tube kits. No idea what I paid but it's a great tool for my uses.
