Don't expect it to strip paint or any heavy duty stuff
Community Reviews
This cordless DEWALT heat gun is best for heat shrink, adhesive removal, decals, and other light-duty warming tasks. It also works well for plastic tubing, delicate heating, and cleaning fine spiderwebs off 3D prints, with two heat settings and a very hot high mode. The tradeoff is weak airflow, slow warmup, and heavy battery drain, so it struggles with paint stripping or other high-heat jobs. It feels more like a quick cordless helper than a full replacement for a plug-in heat gun.
Common Questions (5)
No. It has two heat settings and can get very hot, but it is reported to have low airflow, slow warm-up, and much shorter runtime than a plug-in heat gun. It is better as a portable backup than as a full replacement.
Yes. It is reported to be excellent for heat shrink, removing adhesive, decals, and low-voltage solder tube kits. It also works for delicate heating tasks like plastic tubing and clearing fine spiderwebs on 3D prints.
Yes. It is reported to eat through batteries quickly, especially on high, with even 4Ah and 9Ah FlexVolt packs giving poor runtime. Having 5Ah or larger batteries on hand is recommended if you plan to use it often.
No. It is reported to be disappointing for paint stripping and other heavy-duty jobs, with some users saying it is best for shrink tubing and light tasks only. At around $100, it is considered a hard pass for that use case.
It appears to have only two settings, high and low, rather than a true adjustable temperature dial. The lack of finer temperature control is specifically called out as a drawback.

A heat gun is the one thing you should buy corded, as a LOT of energy is required to put out such energy.
This is one dewalt tool I will skip (and I'm addicted to buying sale priced dewalt rpoducts)

To quantify things, I did a simple test (6 AH battery) where I handheld 18 gauge solder (about 1mm) and timed how long until it melted through and fell off. My corded heatgun did that in 10 seconds, this tool took 2 minutes.
Very disappointed in this tool.
Dremel VersaTip butane mini torch is profoundly better for shrink tubing. It has a catalytic heater that blocks the open flame.
