Looking at previous deals I think this is a good price. Last month $60 for 40lbs was a popular deal.

It's like running with a little kid on your back.

There's a version with shoulder pads and without, since it does not specify, guessing this is without. The 20# version doesn't really need them, 40...who knows.

Definitely need them. I had one before and it really hurt my shoulders without them.

I've had this a year and use it all the time. I started with 20 lbs and worked my way up. I mostly use it for extra weight for leg workouts. I ended up buying shoulder pads and adhesive pads to stick to the front because the weights dig into my ribs if I'm running and have it tight.

Not a good deal if you are remotely serious about rucking/weighted walking/running. These are heavy and they take a fair amount of abuse just being moved around. This like many other "cheap vests" does not use plates or even ingots but is using "shavings" bags for weight. So each one of those "removeable" weights is just a back of scrap metal shavings. Ever had one of your kids spill glitter? Well one of these pouches ripping (and they WILL rip) is right up there with super awesome not fun things to deal with.

Can you ruck with this? sure. Do I think it will hold up? absolutely not. You can typically find 40# vests with plates or ingots in the $60-70 range and again, if you plan to do more than just hang this in the garage and walk by it every day, you want a vest that has solid weights. The shavings bags are fine for a 10 pound vest you just want for casual walks. 40# is a fair amount of weight especially for a newb. Every time you pick it up, set it down, etc. those bags get fatigued and that "stitching" is being stressed.

If you ever plan to remove "weights" that just puts further stress on those little pillows full of powder and metal shavings.

I would recommend anyone remotely serious about rucking to start with a 40# and nothing lighter. Get one that has plates or ingots and just REMOVE 10 pounds from each side. you can't really add weight but you can always take weight off and while 40# is a lot to start, in six months you will grow into the vest.

I had this for a few weeks but returned it for something else. First off, 40lb is very heavy. I am 150lb fit and I could not walk in 40 lb. Started with 32lb and slowly worked my way up, but never made it to 40lb. For context, I walk around 40k steps a day several times a week and at least 15k the rest of the time. The weights are large bags and take up a entire body area making it very sweaty. I bought another vest with solid metal weights that take up less physical space.
