You can use https://audiobookdb.net to check prices to see whether the sale prices are worth committing to a temporary subscription.

For casual listeners like myself with a paid Spotify account, you can stream/download up to 15 hours of audiobooks per month. It's not much, but usually enough for one or two books.

Audible is running a strong sitewide audiobook sale with standout prices on popular series and wishlist titles, including Project Hail Mary for $5.99, Dungeon Crawler Carl around $4 to $5, and Expanse books 7 through 9 near $4 each. Other deals include Alex Rider at $2 to $3 and Jim Weiss stories around $2 for younger kids. The best pricing appears tied to active Premium Plus or Silver access, while trial, Standard, or expired plans may not show the discounts. Sale items can also show as 1 Credit at checkout, so the dollar price needs to be selected carefully.

Common Questions (5)

  • A month of Premium Plus can unlock the sale, and one workaround is to accept a retention offer such as $7.50 per month for 3 months after trying to cancel. The $1 Standard plan and some trial offers reportedly do not unlock the sale, and logging out and back in may be needed to refresh access.

  • Popular picks mentioned include Dungeon Crawler Carl, Bobiverse, The Expanse books 7-9, Alex Rider, Jim Weiss storytelling audiobooks for younger kids, and Project Hail Mary. Alex Rider's first book uses a different narrator, and Jim Weiss titles are around $2 each.

  • The sale is tied to an active Audible Premium Plus membership, and some plans do not show the sale prices at all. Silver plans can see the discounts, while the newer Standard tier may show sale prices for some users but often does not grant the same access.

  • Several titles are dropping to around $2 to $5, with examples like Project Hail Mary at $5.99, Dungeon Crawler Carl around $4 to $5, and The Expanse books 7-9 around $4 each. Some shoppers also reported wishlist buys under $5 and even 80%+ off across many titles.

  • Books bought outright or with Premium Plus credits remain in your library after canceling, but unused credits are forfeited. On the newer Standard plan, the monthly selection is only kept while the membership stays active.

It's saying Dungeon Crawler Carl is $22 bucks after sale price. Guessing it's because I'm not currently a member? Tempted to sign up again, if that's the case.
Same thing here. Not only that, but when I try to start the 99 cent for three months trial, it takes me to a free 30 days trial instead.

I don't have audible anymore but I'm seeing an offer for 99 cents per month for 3 months. I think I'll do that again.

Be careful. The deal I'm seeing is for the new standard plan, which sucks and doesn't allow access to this sale (as far as I can tell).

It also doesn't let you keep the books you get with your credits after you cancel.

Lots of great sales, probably the best I've ever seen so far with them.

Picked up 20 for $62. Got a bunch under $3.

I splurged and got two that were over $5!

That's because the Standard plan doesn't come with credits.

Wait, how does it work after?
If I buy a membership for a month, can I still listen to the books I purchased?
Logic says yes, but everything is so enshittified right now,, that I can expect not to have access to something I own without extra monthly subscription
You keep all of the books you purchase outright or use credits to purchase. You do unfortunately lose accumulated monthly credits if your subscription expires or is cancelled before you use them. Learned that the hard way and it's a prime example of enshitification imo. The Plus membership catalog is decent, but I think it's pretty clear that $14.95/month is mainly for the luxury of buying a book of your choice to own in perpetuity. Losing those credits when you cancel is absurd.

Some info:

I subscribed to the $1 per month for 3 month plan (I know it doesn't get access to the sale).

Went to cancel about 5 minutes later, they give options to keep you on. The best IMO is $7.50 per month for 3 months on premium plus (1 credit per month, etc). This GIVES you access to the sale at the cost of $8.50. You could cancel after one month.

For those in the credit card rewards game, from what I've read, audible purchases DO count towards Chase Freedom's amazon 5% category this quarter. Waiting to see what happens when they eventually post.

Wow no kidding, everything on sale. If only 85% for everything too 😆

How often do these sitewide sales happen?

Not very often, maybe the last one was 6 months ago? And it wasn't as good from what I remember.
