It's a bummer rogue one isn't in this. Also slightly misleading to put 77, 80, 83, when these are presumably the special editions, with garbage cgi, and unneeded extras added to the films. But all should say 1997, as these are not the star wars you're looking for.

These are not the original 77, 80, 83 movies. These are the remakes aka the special editions that add CGI and extra scenes that werent in the OG movies, and they were all released in 1997.

I highly doubt these are the 97 versions either. The 2004 versions added McDiarmid and Christianson, and Greedo shouting MACKLUNKY and Vader shouting NOOO were added even later.

It's quite possible that around the fall or holidays of 2027, the original films will be released for home video. Right now the schedule officially just has A New Hope being released back into theaters in February 2027. However, the remaster work has been done to ALL three original films. So the belief is that they will do a theatrical release for Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi. The only question is when. If they do February, March, April, they can release all 3 before the new Star Wars: Starfighter movie with Ryan Gosling. Otherwise maybe they'll release them later in the year?

But at some point, they'll have put them in theaters and after that, presumably Disney will want money by releasing them for home video on disc and digital.

Right now the leaked footage of the remasters looks incredible. More detail than you get even off the current 4K UHD discs; they are doing the remaster properly. Also, they are remastering the sound.

Edit: For today, the options are either 4K77, 4K80, 4K83 or D+77, D+80, and Harmy's Despecialized 3.0 (or one of the D+83 forks). The 4KXX are made by fans from scanning actual theatrical film reels, while the D+XX series (& Harmy's) are made by using the 4K UHD blu-rays as a base for any non-changed scene, and then splitting in the appropriate footage from 4KXX or another source whenever needed for an original scene.

In the contract Lucas did with Disney, he still has control over A New Hope and how only the atrocious Special Edition can ever be shown. Heck, when he gave A New Hope to the Library of Congress he gave them the Special Edition.

If you believe the rumours the whole thing is to keep his ex-wife (who helped edit Star Wars and allegedly made the edits that transformed it into the movie we know today) from getting royalties from the film, as the Special Editions are legally different enough where she can't get paid. They had a NASTY divorce and the hurt feelings run deep.

This was only ever rumors and is blatantly contradicted by the official announcement by Lucasfilm that they are showcasing the original theatrical version in February of 2027.

Also, there's not a snowball's chance in the hell the rumor is true about her getting royalties on the original versions, but not the Special Editions. That's not how anything works or else every film company in Hollywood would release a special edition and cut everyone else out of the money. She's even still credited in the Special Editions as well as the current versions available today.

Great deal, even with the special editions and new trilogy storyline.
