Magnacut steel became available in 2023, it's not the same as the one with 14c28n.

The comic crossover is odd, and the branding on the scales is certainly a choice.
But dang, a magnacut Leek for $80 is a deal.

I think if you are a Leek fan, the magnacut blade is a top choice.

The series is good as a relatively inexpensive EDC, easy to keep sharp, "modest" in looks and handy to open when you need it. Even the blade lock is basic but functional.

They are great for general purpose daily use, you won't be chopping logs at camp, but for opening boxes, opening feed bags / salt sacks, cutting rope, peeling fruit etc. they are a solid choice.

I have more than a dozen combinations ( I've posted a few deals for them here including the copper scaled version) and I am a big fan of the damascus blades and carbon fiber scales, and the magnacut is up there in terms of favorites. For $80ish this is a good deal as I don't think I've seen any other magnacuts under $100. You can always swap out scales (with Kershaw or aftermarket) if the design doesnt suit.

I love the Leek - I've had now 4 over the years. Only one had the tip break, and I ended up losing that one! Currently have a 1660GRYBW and it's been really nice. In for 1 for something that'll last a lot longer with the Magnacut. Nice find!

Got a leek as a gift and I use it all the time. It's incredibly easy to simply open one handed and use.

I don't understand, I have a twenty five dollar Kershaw That does the exact same thing and looks great and also have box cutter with razors that do the exact same thing, I think we're asking for a reason why it's $50 more, not $3 more

The "we" of enthusiasts is different from non enthusiasts of course, it's not hard to see this applies to all kinds of products you can be talking about computers or electronics and a comment like this could be be posted for any number of higher end product deals. But your use, which sounds very casual and utilitarian is probably very different from those who find themselves outdoors or need higher corrosion resistance because of the environment they'll be in, which this steel is good for by the way. Not everyones use case is the same and of course what they're willing to spend is different as well.

So basically you were saying that this is much more expensive because it doesn't corrode as often, Although my $25 Kershaw which is outdoors in humid FL weather pretty much over 40 hours a week has not shown one sign of corrosion in about 5 yrs so.......... ?

FYI, I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but no one here has stated one legit reason why anyone should pay an extra $60 for this.

That is one factor as an example, if you want to look up all the factors aside from corrosion resistance you cam do a search for Larrin knife steel nerds. There are other things like edge retention, toughness amd how easy a steel is to sharpen. You evidently are not willing to pay more but the fact that it is on the market and this is a historically good price for this model shows others are willing. This is a deal forum and not a knife or any other product forum where people go into the technical details, at the end of the day it depends on the person. You might be fine with corrosion resistance for your use but there are other scenarios like a diving knife. If you actually want to know more then that's the kind of forums and page to read, not here where it's going to be focused on price alone.

Why is this knife so much more than other Kershaw knives? I've become a real fan of Kershaw. I imagine the materials are different?

It's relative. You know the company has a whole line that's more expensive than Kershaws (Zero Tolerance) and some people will buy knives that are several hundred dollars. Compared to those which may not have the premium blade steel this one is better in that regard.

Never liked the clip on my cheaper ken onion Leek. Tempting but I did just get a Mini Grip Bechmade and do not need another knife.

Magnacut is one of the few blade steels that hits the trifecta. Corrosion resistance (think salt water), blade retention (stays sharper significantly longer), and hardness (less prone to breakage).

You should go look at magnacut knives. Just Google them. This is way cheaper than any other magnacut you can find. If you don't know why it's more than a 8cr13 or a D2 then you probably don't need it. Nicer things are always more and rarely is the additional cost relative to the perceived improvement. That's how it is with everything. You want the better steel, you pay for it. If you don't, you don't.
