Agree here. I have a mostly aluminum hose reel cart that is kept outside through all the elements and still functions as when I bought eight years ago. This is something you buy once, cry once - but the durability is worth it.

Went to the store the other day specifically to buy a cheap hose reel. Picked this thing up and immediately put it back. Absolute junk. Left with a gorilla.

I have an older generation that was $20 since 2018 that holds my 100 ft craftsman rubber hose which is probably over 50 lbs when it's filled with water

The plastic flexes but it's still working fine. Water does leak eveually but you can replace the o rings. Always drain and remove hose fittings from the reel when storing for winter.

going to buy aluminum when this breaks

Horrible experience with these. After my 2020 Eley purchase it's hard to not want nothing else. Problem is Eley is $340 on sale after tax at the moment. Wish there was a happy medium

I had two of these rollers outside for nearly 15 years and gave neither overly special treatment. Both eventually leaked enough to justify disposing of, but it took a while. My main gripe with these is that wasps LOVED to build nests in the center of the roller, and inside the handle. There was a small hole in the side of the handle that wasps could enter and build. You always found out the hard way.

FB is not really an indication of value or market price. It's just people buying junk from people selling junk at the prices nobody know how much it's worth.

Regarding hose reels, I have been using the box type for 2 years and they are also crap. Leak, difficult to reel, cracked cover or housing, just overall crap for $80+ wasted. I'm considering getting one of those self reeling ones as soon as Costco starts carrying them.

I bought one of these last year, and yes I would not buy again and would not recommend, and for the same reason.
