Just found somebody on a marketplace who sold me an i5 6500, 8 gigs ram, terabyte hard drive, 60 bucks. It's only about four times as big, and ancient, but maybe it'll get it done.

I got one of those for $20 a few years ago. A dell 7040 with a 128gb m.2 slot. Throw in a P1000 GPU and it's pretty good for the kids as a console once you add controllers.

Man I got screwed on that, I should have checked the age of the cpu. The ram was as stated for size, the hard drive was as stated, everything was good but the CPU a damn Ivy bridge, so I got jipped with a computer that was about as ancient as the dinosaurs. I really should have only bought it after I could turn it on and look at the specs.

of course it's a 14-pin connection to the power board so I can't even upgrade the PSU

Ivy bridge quad core isn't much slower than a 6500. Intel barely improved things - those were slow years. You can still pop in a p1000 or wx4100/3200 for $50 and an old ssd and have a pretty good mini pc for retro/2014 and older games. I'm playing Portal 2 and Shadow of War on mine just fine.

It uses some weird 14-pin power connector to the motherboard, so I can't upgrade the power supply very easily, apparently even if I use a adapter it's still might not verify the voltage correctly or something so it won't work

P1000 doesn't need a different power supply. It only uses PCIE power and is a half height, single slot card comparable to the 1050.

Thank you for the new search terms.

and if you know where to get one of those for a good price, any of them that can run on just the pcie, let me know where. I'm trying to keep it under $50 for sure if I can, but if I can get more power for just a couple more dollars maybe I could

Ebay is where I got mine. I made an offer for $50 on one with free shipping. Go AMD 3200/4100 if you want to go Linux just for easier driver support, otherwise for $50, get the P1000. It's faster and great in Windows 10.

Awesome deal. P1000 is a great little card with 4 GB VRAM. I don't think you can do better for $43 in that form factor. I got some 8bitdo controllers for $22 and it's a great little console.
