Based on the type of offer at CVS that's giving extra bucks, in this scenario, using existing extra bucks to pay can be done and you'll earn the new extra bucks. That way you limit your Out of pocket and just use the rewards you earned from a prior deal.
Now, some CVS offers are based on 'spend', ie, spend $20 in Revlon, earn $10 extra bucks, there using the ECB's to pay for an online order DO NOT count towards the $20 spend out of pocket needed to earn new rewards.
So rolling is basically the concept of using existing ECB's to get NEW ECB's with a new 30 day expiration date on them.
