These Logitech thumb-marbles have been my daily driver since the Trackman Plus days. I still end up buying a new one every few years. The build quality leaves much to be desired. Logi has used the absolute most ass quality chinese microswitches for the buttons that go bad very quickly for a long, long time. This can be alleviated by replacing them with Japanese switches for just a few dollars when the first ones begin to fail. The Japanese switches last beyond the remaining life of the plastic mouse button itself, which will start to wear down the contact point molded into the underside of the button. I've attempted further repairs at this point by grinding the contact flat and gluing a little square of metal under there, but they're never quite right again. So I consider these a consumable product at this point. Like everything else, the Dodge Brothers demand enshittification of all in sacrifice for perpetual profits for the (((investors))).

I don't think it's specific for a type/"kind of work", but I think it's meant for folks with Carpal Tunnel or other similar kinds of issues. Not my personal cup of tea, but I don't have any hand issues like that.

If you work in Tech this will save you from carpal tunnel. Was suffering from wrist pain not quite serious carpal tunnel. Tried a wood wrist rest which helped a bit but switching to this mouse made the wrist pain disappear.

RSI guy here. These things saved my wrist, and thusly my incredible disc golf career! Been on em as daily drivers since 2012. I can't do fps games with them, but everything else it is the jam. I love my mx ergo, but it's finally starting to go...

Love this product and the mx ergo s. I had an elbow injury for years and this alleviates the pain 100%. I'm not a gamer but do spend a lot of time in spreadsheets. The Bluetooth feature is a really nice upgrade to ditch the dongle and free up an extra USB port. The contacts under the ball do get gunky and need to be cleaned frequently, especially if you eat at your desk.

I've always been intrigued by the trackball style but have never had the opportunity to try one. I'm a big fan of avoiding repetitive use injuries, so perhaps now is the time.

In addition to avoiding injuries as others have noted, it's also useful if you have a cluttered desk. A mouse requires some amount of desktop real estate to scoot around, while the trackball takes up only its own footprint, and is fully functional even with stuff piled right next to it.
