These Logitech thumb-marbles have been my daily driver since the Trackman Plus days. I still end up buying a new one every few years. The build quality leaves much to be desired. Logi has used the absolute most ass quality chinese microswitches for the buttons that go bad very quickly for a long, long time. This can be alleviated by replacing them with Japanese switches for just a few dollars when the first ones begin to fail. The Japanese switches last beyond the remaining life of the plastic mouse button itself, which will start to wear down the contact point molded into the underside of the button. I've attempted further repairs at this point by grinding the contact flat and gluing a little square of metal under there, but they're never quite right again. So I consider these a consumable product at this point. Like everything else, the Dodge Brothers demand enshittification of all in sacrifice for perpetual profits for the (((investors))).

The Logitech Ergo M575S is a thumb trackball built for wrist relief, desk clutter, and everyday productivity. It is described as especially helpful for carpal tunnel, RSI, elbow pain, spreadsheets, Photoshop, and web browsing, and the Bluetooth connection frees up a USB port. The trackball footprint stays usable in tight spaces, but it is not suited to FPS gaming. Caveats include frequent cleaning under the ball, reports of wear on the finish and ball tracking over time, and a shorter warranty than the M575.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can help reduce wrist pain and repetitive-strain issues because the thumb trackball keeps your hand mostly stationary. It is especially useful for long spreadsheet, productivity, and browsing sessions, but it is not suited to FPS gaming.

  • The mouse can wear out over time: the finish may degrade, the ball can start jumping, and the button microswitches may fail after a few years. Some users treat it as a consumable and replace the switches with Japanese Omron parts to extend its life.

  • It is described as a fairly regular sale price rather than a standout bargain. A prior coupon price of $29 was mentioned, and the M575S warranty was also noted as shorter than the M575's.

    BondTDanzillacoffeeduck

  • No. The trackball only uses its own footprint, so it stays usable even on a cluttered desk or when items are piled next to it. That makes it easier to use than a conventional mouse that needs room to move around.

    MagentaTree722

  • It supports Bluetooth, which can free up a USB port and avoid using a dongle. That makes it convenient for laptops or setups where USB ports are limited.

I don't think it's specific for a type/"kind of work", but I think it's meant for folks with Carpal Tunnel or other similar kinds of issues. Not my personal cup of tea, but I don't have any hand issues like that.

If you work in Tech this will save you from carpal tunnel. Was suffering from wrist pain not quite serious carpal tunnel. Tried a wood wrist rest which helped a bit but switching to this mouse made the wrist pain disappear.

Most productivity apps and web browsing. Mixing up / rotating pointers reduces repetitive stress injury.

RSI guy here. These things saved my wrist, and thusly my incredible disc golf career! Been on em as daily drivers since 2012. I can't do fps games with them, but everything else it is the jam. I love my mx ergo, but it's finally starting to go...

Love this product and the mx ergo s. I had an elbow injury for years and this alleviates the pain 100%. I'm not a gamer but do spend a lot of time in spreadsheets. The Bluetooth feature is a really nice upgrade to ditch the dongle and free up an extra USB port. The contacts under the ball do get gunky and need to be cleaned frequently, especially if you eat at your desk.

Same here, plus photoshop and other publishing programs at work.

I've always been intrigued by the trackball style but have never had the opportunity to try one. I'm a big fan of avoiding repetitive use injuries, so perhaps now is the time.

In addition to avoiding injuries as others have noted, it's also useful if you have a cluttered desk. A mouse requires some amount of desktop real estate to scoot around, while the trackball takes up only its own footprint, and is fully functional even with stuff piled right next to it.
