There always tradeoffs when going with a DIY-targeted thing like this, but not having to worry so much about vacuum pumps and volatile refrigerant makes this temmmpting. To say nothing of how hard it is to find an independent installer not already tied to one manufacturer.

Would've been great if Costco had included an option that included installation as well

I was looking at one of these or a Senville Elite Series. The issue with Senville is you have to have a pro come out and pressure test and connect the lines at the end, and lots of them won't work with owner-installed stuff, but I was able to find some in my area that would do that. It's true that a lot of companies won't help, but it seems that there are always some out there who will. The nice thing about MRCOOL is that you keep the warranty with full DIY install. However, those Senville Elite series have some super impressive efficiency ratings, especially the heating.

What's the difference between this 12K unit and this one from Ace? Is it just the 1.7 seer rating difference? Is it worth the extra money then? https://www.acehardware.com/depar...c-shopping

I'm not 100% sure, but the Ace one does not say "DIY" and says "conventional install," so I'd guess it's not the DIY line with the pre-charged lines. If so, you'd need a vacuum pump, pressure test, etc.

Only the ones labeled DIY will have the quick connect lines. Otherwise, you'll need a professional to at least flare the ends, pressure test, and set the lines. You should expect to pay somewhere from $400-$800 for that.

Flaring the lines isn't complicated. Here's a tool at Home Depot for $56. I bought one new, still in the package, for about $20 on eBay.
