The downsides are that it's louder than I expected, but we use it as a white noise machine also so it works okay. The real pain is the filter cost. It's just ridiculously expensive, and there are very few aftermarket filters with comparable quality. I found Nispira filters, which seem to be the only ones from a reputable company. However, they require distilled water, which is still much cheaper considering how much you save by not buying the original filters.
