Don't order this chimney from Amazon. I've order two (separate orders) and both came badly bent.

Same price at Lowe's. Expert grill at Walmart for $10 has been my go to for years. Mine just sits outside in the rain because I always sit it down while it's hot and that's just where it stays until I use it again.

Thats probably your Amazon guy because mine came in with no issue. Works great!

Note for some people that dont read like me: this is a smaller sized one. I thought this was the standard not the compact( again I didnt read) it ended up working great for my father in law but for a bigger grill its not gonna cut it unless you do 2 rounds.

Used to think about this every time when I first learned to light coals for grilling. After a few times it just feels completely unnecessary.
Piece of the charcoal paper bag in the middle, coals arranged in a loose pile around. Dash of alcohol and light it up. Give it half a min of fanning and it'll be hard for the coals to not be lit.

Million ways to start charcoal but this is about dummy proof.

As an FYI, this is the 'compact' or smaller size. Still good as a starter, but often won't cut it for a full sized kettle grill.

Using a charcoal chimney like this doesn't require any accelerant. It does take longer to get the coals ready, but if you grew up with adults using charcoal lighter fluid to get coals ready, you can literally taste the difference.

I always use the side burner on my gas grill to get the chimney going. It's pretty much the only thing I use that burner for.

Unless there is significant wind or you ate using a flat/ground fire ring.

Or one can use it with an electric starter and an air blower to get extremely hot coals quickly.

They have organic starter tabs ..... think its just organic matter coated in wax on Amazon that accelerates the light. They are called charcoal starter squares. They also have ones that looked like rolls of hay. You just light them under any chiminey.

Might need to replace mine, but sounds like this isn't the way to go.

True, but an electric starter and air blowers are accelerants. An electric starter requires electricity, which isn't readily available in some situations.

With this chimney, all you need is charcoal up top and a wad of paper/tinder underneath. Light it, let it start smoking, and you'll have a nice flame in 30 minutes. Dump it in the grill, add some more coals on top if you have a longer grill session planned, and Bob's your uncle.

When I use these, I get the coals going first, then go inside and get other things ready (food, utensils, drinks, whatever). By the time food is ready to grill, the coals are hot and ready.
