Valvoline Hybrid ATF is being used as a low cost universal style fluid for top offs and drain and fills in vehicles that call for Dex VI, Dex 6, Ford and Hyundai Kia LV specs, Honda DW1, and Toyota WS. It is also described as working in non hybrid vehicles, with smooth shifting after a drain and fill and even use in older trucks and power steering systems. The main caution is fitment, since some applications call for ULV instead, and the hybrid label makes Toyota WS and similar cases worth double checking. A flexible pick when the spec match is confirmed.

  • The hybrid ATF can match vehicles that specify standard LV synthetic ATF such as Dex6.

  • The fluid can be used for top-offs, which helps when only a small amount is needed.

  • The fluid can meet Dex VI needs for a 2012 Buick Enclave, and the change process can be simple.

  • The fluid reportedly exceeded specs in a 1988 GMC 1500 after a recent purchase.

  • The hybrid-labeled product may not fit vehicles that require ULV instead of LV.

  • Fitment can be confusing for Honda applications because DW-1 guidance may conflict with what appears on Advance Auto listings.

  • The fluid's compatibility with WS versus MaxLife hybrid certifications can be unclear from the available information.

  • The fluid may not be a safe match for Toyota WS transmissions without confirming the specific requirement.

Will it work with 2012 GMC Acadia.
Go to advanced auto website and enter your car info. It will tell you if it is the correct fluid.

Advance Auto also has a lot of Idemitsu Transmission fluids on clearance for $1.95 a Quart.

Idemitsu is the OE supplier for the likes of Honda, Toyota, Nissan , Subaru and I think Hyundai

Honda ATF Dw-1 runs $9 quart at my local dealer. The Idemitsu variant for DW-1 is Type H Plus.

Yes. We have a 2012 Buick Enclave which is the same vehicle. They take Dex VI which this fluid meets. As already posted in this thread, product data also states this can be used in non hybrid vehicles, so you're good to go. The trans fluid is also EXTREMELY easy to change in these vehicles. Just drop the plug and refill. You're not able to drop a pan (there isn't one) so you just flush and refill until it is bright red. Plan on more fluid than normal for this procedure, which this deal is great for.

Is this compatible with a Toyota Prius? Or should I stick to Toyota WS ATF?

Thanks, picked up 6 quarts and will grab more from nearby stores. Just got a beater vehicle so this'll work great to swap out the power steering fluid which specifies Dex II or III.

Thanks OP! Bought about 100 quarts. It works in most non hybrids also. It's just additives to protect hybrids in addition to standard atf.

Thanks for sharing that..

Reading thru, everything under the sun is listed in ther.. 🤔

It's hard to tell if you can use this in regular ATF WS transmissionsas well? Since it says hybrid on the bottle.. it has good dielectric conductivity, but does NOT explain how its different from the reg valoline maxline?..

Stranger yet, in the case of Toyota's both hybrids and non-hybrids use the ATF WS.. however the replacement vendors have different replacements for regular Toyota vehicles versus hybrid Toyotas vehicles..

yeah i feel that Valvoline is getting rid of this fluid because it is the same as the regular atf fluid they sell and the maxlife stuff is now certified for hybrids etc. the PI sheet for both are 99.9 percent the same.

i just used this in a 2008 Honda that takes dw1 and it isnt a hybrid. it shifts smooth as it did before the drain and fill. i also have a lexus that i plan on using this in. it takes toyota ws and im sure this will be fine.

Wonder if this'll work the same way non-hybrid atf does when you mix it 50/50 with acetone.
You need non-synthetic atf for it to stay mixed with the acetone. Just get house brand dexron III.
