This DEWALT Powerstack 5Ah starter kit stands out as a strong value for anyone wanting a premium 20V battery with a charger. The 5Ah Powerstack is praised for delivering solid power, especially on vacuum and lawn tools, and the kit price is viewed as favorable versus typical per amp hour pricing. The battery is still fairly large and heavier than expected, and the compact Powerstack label is not as dramatic at this capacity. Stock and fulfillment have been inconsistent, so checking availability, production date, and the included charger model matters.

  • DIYers who want a DeWalt 20V battery upgrade and are okay buying a kit because it's been seen as low as ~$50 on clearance (YMMV) and commenters say they'd still jump on it at $75 if they hadn't already gotten that deal.

  • Homeowners who already own DeWalt 20V tools and just need more 5Ah capacity because Powerstack 5Ah works with regular 20V DeWalt tools (and commenters call it their go-to for DeWalt tools).

  • People using vacuum and lawn equipment who care about sustained runtime because commenters report Powerstack 5Ah (and Powerpacks 8Ah) sustain power better and avoid the slow end-of-battery drain they notice with other packs.

  • Buyers who can score it when it's actually in stock nearby because one commenter says it's a great deal only if a nearby store has it in stock, while their local stores were out but other ZIP searches showed availability elsewhere.

  • Deal hunters who evaluate value by $/Ah because one commenter lays out a rule-of-thumb ($10/Ah basic, up to $15/Ah premium like Powerstack) and argues the $75 kit price is strong when you factor in the free charger value.

  • Owners of off-brand cordless tools that require a battery adapter because commenters warn this kit won't work with off-brand tools that need an adapter (they say it only works with regular 20V DeWalt battery tools).

  • DeWalt users who already have plenty of 5Ah XR and/or 6Ah Flexvolt packs because one commenter says Powerstack doesn't really provide anything they can't already get from those batteries, so they wouldn't be motivated even at this price.

  • People expecting a truly compact 5Ah battery because commenters say the 5Ah Powerstack is still "massive" compared to smaller Powerstacks (like 1.7Ah) and that the compactness claim is somewhat of a misnomer at higher capacities.

  • Buyers who want to be able to replace individual cells later because commenters warn that when the Powerstack cell "goes bye bye," you can't replace it like a normal battery.

  • Shoppers who need the exact charger model listed on the box because one commenter says their kit box listed a DCB115 charger but the included charger was actually the advertised DCB1104 (and they also noted battery dating differences).

Why does this battery look 'shorter' than 5ah?
Power stack use a stack of pouch cells vs. 18650s so there's less bulk from the housing of those cells and less wasted space from stacking round objects in a square housing.

It's a good deal, but check the production date, recent Home Depot deals had a bunch of powerstacks made in 2024.

This is a great battery. Only issue is that it won't work with off brand tools that require a battery adapter. My rigid tools only work with regular 20v DeWalt battery.

But for any DeWalt tool, this is my go to

Thumbs up for the good price, but I'm not getting any. These don't really provide anything that I can't already get out of my existing 5AH XR batteries and/or the 6AH flexvolts. Sure there may be technically some more power with certain tools but not enough to motivate me even at this price. That said, if I needed more batteries in the 5AH range these would absolutely be purchased.
Now if I can get a handful of the 1.7 AH stackies for 30 bucks apiece I would snap up at least two in an instant.
I have a couple of the 1.7 i got for ~30 on clearance, really no difference I can tell. But for the vacuum and lawn equipment, the powerstack 5ah and powerpacks 8ah sustain way better, and i don't get that slow drain at the end.

Arguably as long as you save the receipt its probably not that big of a deal, warranty is based on the purchase date if you have proof of purchase from an authorized seller.

Damn good deal for this kit. Best deal I was able to snag was for the battery only for $50 as part of an in store clearance deal at Home Depot.

Mine was a 2022 battery. Also the box has a DCB115 charger on it, but in the box was the advertised DCB1104.
