The Coway Airmega 300 comes across as a strong whole room air purifier with quiet, effective filtration and enough coverage for large spaces. It is praised for keeping allergies under control, handling dust well, and still working reliably after years of use. The prefilter also traps a surprising amount of dust, which makes upkeep feel worthwhile. The main drawback is filter cost, since original replacements are expensive and rarely discounted. A dependable pick if you want cleaner air and can live with pricier maintenance.
people who want to cover a larger area with one unit because the listing is described as having 1256 sq ft coverage and multiple commenters call the Airmega 300 a "solid" purchase and "terrific" at the price they paid.
homeowners who are okay planning for filter costs and want to use cheaper replacement options because commenters note that if it's like the Airmega 400, aftermarket (non-OEM) filters can be found cheaply on Amazon.
allergy sufferers who want a true HEPA purifier to keep symptoms under control because one commenter says "it works great to keep allergies under control."
people buying for a child's room because a commenter says they'd "snag another" for the incoming little human's room and calls the Airmega 300 a great deal at this price.
buyers who prefer a more aesthetically pleasing solution than a box-fan setup because one commenter says they used a box fan during COVID but switched to the Airmega 300/400 for the living room since they prefer something that looks better.
people who plan to use DIY box-fan filter setups as a substitute because commenters say those setups are "limited functionality" and "aren't replacement for a good air purifier" since they won't capture fine particles.
buyers who don't want to deal with expensive replacement filters because commenters warn that "the filters are so expensive to replace and they never go on sale."
buyers who are considering non-original replacement filters because one commenter warns "Don't get those. They have a bad smell. Get the originals."
buyers who expect one purifier to work equally well everywhere in a big home without considering layout because a commenter notes that even with 1000+ sqft, performance depends on room/wall layout and suggests using additional units based on home layout.

It worked really well during COVID, especially since we didn't have many visitors. In 2023–2024, I switched to a few different air purifiers, including the Airmega 300 and 400, along with some other brands when they were on sale.
The box fan setup is still great for the basement, but for the living room, I prefer something more aesthetically pleasing. This is just my personal preference.
