The Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen is a compact Bluetooth speaker that stands out for strong sound and rugged build quality. It can also be paired with a second speaker in the Bose app for easy stereo left and right channels, which works well for bedside setups. The main drawbacks are the Bose app itself, which is described as frustrating, and the Costco SE version, which lacks a microphone for speakerphone and voice assistant use. A solid-sounding portable option if those tradeoffs do not matter.
The Bose app can make it easier to link two SoundLink Flex speakers in stereo mode.
A single SoundLink Flex speaker can play both channels, while stereo is created by linking two speakers.
The speaker can deliver strong sound quality and handle rough use.
The SoundLink Flex can be as good as competing Bluetooth speakers at a lower price point.
The SE special edition can have fewer features than the standard version.
The Bose app experience can be poor enough to prevent repurchasing the speaker.
The SE special edition can omit a microphone, speakerphone, and voice assistant features.
Better-sounding or better-featured options may exist at the same price point.
