IMO it's sort of like an assassins creed-ish open world Star Wars game. It's pretty fun. A lot of the negativity for the game is derived from the fact that it's a game key card.

I totally get some of the criticism behind the key cards, BUT... let's not forget how terrible the days of a piece of paper with a code were. Use the code once and it is forever attached to an account, no sharing.

Not to sound like a bootlicker, but I think the context of what it USED to be needs to be considered.

I've played a lot of old school Star Wars games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, Shadows of the Empire. Does this game share any of the DNA of those games? Do you imagine I might enjoy it? Is there any other modern game this is similar to for comparison purposes?

IMO it's sort of like an assassins creed-ish open world Star Wars game. It's pretty fun. A lot of the negativity for the game is derived from the fact that it's a game key card.

For sure, I'll take a GKC any day it's still a physical swappable sellable piece. The game itself with the story is compelling enough, Star Wars fans seem to enjoy it more than non fans.

All the games you listed are better, especially JKA, but you might find some fun here if you like assassin's creed.

Sadly there are no equivalents to Jedi Outcast so people just still play that one online with custom clients like EternalJK or TaystJK; there are still multiplayer servers with players in 2026.

I don't mind the key card if it allows them to hit lower price points. It's a creative solution and the business case makes sense. Yet, as someone who's still got a collection of nes, snes, n64, genesis, wii and Wii U physical games, it's sad that these key cards will most likely be useless in 10-20 years.

Not just game card. This game is kinda mess. If you just want to walk around and enjoy Star Wars universe, it's fine but game design and flow of story is all over the place. Definitely wouldn't say it's slick deal at $40.
