Make sure tall fescue is what you want. This isn't a good choice for patching other kinds of grassess

I laid down tall fescue today... not scotts... not coated... just good old fashioned seed with good seed to soil contact, some straw and now a ton of watering.

Let us know how that works. I hope it was RTF or at least TTTF (NOT that cheap, old-school Kentucky 31 fescue).
Vis inertiae: "Figuratively, it refers to apathy, inactivity, or a strong reluctance to change." (I had to look that one up!)

Home Depot also has the Scotts Sun & Shade Mix which is a mix of KBG, ryegrass, and two varieties of fescue for the same price

Is this good for warm weather climates with clay soil and no direct sunlight?

Good price. Im looking for deep rooted grass to hold up to a yard with dogs. This might fit the bill!

today was day 2 of 3x watering per day... I'm not loving it. It's a pain in the ass... and getting my sprinkler to hit all parts of the lawn... pain in the ass as well...

Not sure what your setup is, but three years ago I did my entire yard. Tripod sprinklers daisy chained and a timer on the spigot made it really easy to get full coverage and not have to worry about it. I used a TTTF from Twin City Seed.

On clearance for $10.97 at some Lowe's stores. YMMV and in store only.

I seeded my front yard... basically a big rectangle... so I put a sprinkler about 15 feet away from one corner, setting it to hit 180 degrees, 10 minutes I move it to the adjacent corner. Rinse, repeat till all 4 corners are done and leaving the interior relatively unwatered, then I set the sprinkler to do a 330 degrees... not sure how to get it to do a full circle without taking it apart. But I'm happy with the situation... 50 minutes, full yard watered... I'm on day 4 or watering... so it should only be another 3 or so days before I start to see germination.
