They're good for lighting wicks(fireworks, candles, etc), and things to light other things. For example, if you want to light a small fire, I use these to light a piece of paper then use the paper to start the fire.

We use it to light a gas cook top and fire place. It should work but may take a bit longer.

I prefer/have one where the arc lighter is on the end of a gooseneck, making it a tad more maneuverable.

Yes.
This is significantly better than the piezoelectric ignition built into most gas grills. Your big challenge will be positioning it right…

I've had a similar one (the cheaper ones with the flexible neck) for almost 2 years now - still works fine after regular use and having a charred head
