These do sound pretty good with EQ, especially at the price point.

Edifier Mr4's are a much better bargain.

I have these (5" model) in my home studio with the sub, going on about 10 years now, pretty happy with the sound and speakers overall

I had the Adam A7X, and then downsized my studios and use the 8" version of these. Unless you're getting paid to do mixing and mastering, these are more than enough. Only real con is they have a pretty prominent hiss when they're powered up (even if not connected to anything).

How would you compare the tonality of the JBLs vs the Adam? Which one in your opinion is more neutral?

I don't want to waste anyone's time trying to subjectively split hairs. If you're making music, that's the wrong question to ask. If you're professionally mixing/mastering, then these links have enough info to answer your question:

https://www.audiosciencereview.co...iew.46362/
(there's no 3rd party measurements of the A7X I'm aware of, but the Adam monitors that have been measured are within spitting distance)
If you don't understand those, just buy whatever. Know that acoustic treatment makes 100x more of a difference than switching monitors.
If you're not sure if these will be enough, save up for whatever your brain is convinced is "the best." If you buy that one, you'll have no way to blame your gear. I learned that lesson the hard way. Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong. The only expensive audio gear I'd buy again if I had to start from scratch is an analog tube compressor. When everyone says that budget mics, monitors, interfaces, preamps, etc. are good enough... they're not joking.

Should be able to get these for less than this. They regularly show up as used, like new for under $150. Or you can find them on eBay as open box. I bought five of the 308p versions a couple of years ago for under $120 a piece. They were all new with the plastic still on the face. They're more than that now but there are good prices to be found. I use them in my living room system with two 15-in ported subs and they sound great.
