This magnetic precision screwdriver set is best as a cheap backup kit for electronics repair, spare bits, or a small refill for an electric screwdriver. The metal handle, somewhat magnetic case, and backpack friendly size make it easy to keep on hand, and the bits are described as solid for home use and handy for PC screws and other small jobs. The main drawback is the stock handle, which feels slippery and awkward, though the bits themselves still seem durable enough for light work. A compact, low cost kit that fills gaps without taking much space.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. It works well as a spare bit refill for small electronics jobs, especially if you lost pieces from a pricier electric screwdriver set or want extra bits upstairs, in a desk, or in a backpack. It is also useful for PCs and other devices that use several small screw sizes.

  • Yes. The bits can be used as backup bits in an electric screwdriver, and the set can be paired with a cheap powered driver to make a more complete kit.

  • The included handle is metal and compact, but it is reported to be very slippery with a narrow knurled section and a freely spinning tip, which makes higher-torque screws harder to turn. Grip tape or duct tape can improve it.

  • Yes. The code stacks on multiple purchases, and buying three sets reportedly came to less than $20 after tax.

[QUOTE=katyperricus;183683706]I picked this exact set up last time it was on sale because I lost a row of my all my flathead ORIA bits from a move, wanted an extra set upstairs, and wanted to test out the quality of the set before I used it as a stocking stuffer.
The bits are great for at least home use. My only complaint about the WESTDUT set is in its stock form the screwdriver itself is pretty impractical and one of the most awful screwdrives that I've used (but it seems at least durable and well-machined enough). Perhaps some type of grip tape would make it a fair bit better. The screwdriver itself feels like the surface of a non-slip fan, with about 1.5" of barely pronounced and slippery knurling that's far down the screwdriver and doesn't offer much grip. Finger oils make this like gripping a buttered pan that's about the profile of a mechanical pencil. It's so slippery and narrow that you struggle getting the barely zero amount of torque and seems to make it twice as hard as the ORIA handle with a better. Small screws aren't very tight so you typically don't need much torque, but everyone doing electronics repair knows that there's always that one screw that is going to have to be cracked to let loose. The handle makes it considerably harder than it needs to be. To make things worse, it has a freely spinning tip so you cant put a bit of pressure on it with the tip of your palm. I wouldn't go as far as saying that the still durable screwdriver makes it unusable, but the difference is night and day between a set with a grippy, rubber handle.

If it's something that needs 6+ screws removed, you can bet that I'll go grab the ORIA handle from downstairs (which is nothing special). In fact, I've done it for smaller jobs because I dread using the WESTDUT handle (but maybe that griptape or even just a layer of ducttape with some intentional ripples will drastically improve it).

The ORIA set had a lot more, lower quality bits (most of them I have not used) and some wedges/other tools. By all means, it was probably was a $17-$30 set so by no means is it fair to directly compare to something priced at a bag of doritos. Those bits are extremely soft and made from what's quite obviously some terrible pot metal alloy, but you don't need tungsten bits for screws anchored by plastic. The star bits are probably my favorite and most frequently used as eventually you figure out they are really a multi-tool that can grip onto darn near anything with some sharp edges. Unfortunately, that's rough on the bits and given the quality of the ORIA bits on my existing sets.. using star bits with plenty of

When I see one of these I have to have it, then when I put it away I have to move aside the one I forgot I already bought.
Same! But spare bits for the ones I've got is still worth $6 imo.

TIP: These can be used in your electric screwdriver as a backup.
